To Pee in Peace: Gender-Neutral Toilets for a More Inclusive Campus

The To Pee in Peace project aims to implement gender-neutral toilets across the university campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València, actively contributing to gender equality and the creation of safer, more inclusive spaces.

The initiative is particularly aimed at trans people and people with reduced mobility, groups that often face discomfort, discrimination, or insecurity when using gendered toilets. The proposal, developed by Fine Arts student Ara de Roo, is based on a visual and symbolic transformation of these spaces through floor signage using adhesive vinyls and wall murals, thereby avoiding the need for structural renovations.

This initiative is financially supported by the ENHANCE Diversity Seed Fund, which backs innovative student-led projects aimed at addressing key challenges related to inclusion, diversity, and equality within academic communities. Through this fund, students can turn their social commitment into concrete actions with a real impact on university life, helping to foster campuses that are safer, more accessible, and more respectful for everyone.

The new gender-neutral toilets are located on the ground floor of the School of Architecture, and in the library of the Faculty of Business.
