Environment Week

The UPV organises the Environment Week, from 13 to 19 November, with the slogan "Turn on your conscience, turn off the light"

[ 14/11/2023 ]

Did you know that the consumption of electrical energy for air conditioning represents around 60% of the total energy consumption of the Universitat Politècnica de València? And you consume between 8% and 10% more energy for every degree you increase heating or decrease cooling.

These are some facts you can find out during UPV's Environment Week, organised by the Environmental Unit from 13 to 19 November, with the slogan "Turn on your conscience, turn off the light".

This action aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of consuming energy and to encourage people to use energy wisely.

In this sense, you will be able to learn about the good environmental practices developed by UPV to save energy and the consumption of each building, as well as take part in a challenge (and receive a lovely gift).

Energy consumption at the UPV

The University's energy consumption is divided into the consumption of electrical energy and the consumption of fuels, which are mainly used in three processes: the air-conditioning of premises, the consumption of the equipment that is heated and cooled (equipment, rooms) and lighting.

Among the fuels, the most notable is natural gas, mainly used for heating.

To reduce its environmental impact, the UPV is committed to renewable energies. Thus, in 2024, more than one million euros will be invested in generating photovoltaic solar energy for self-consumption.

The University is also organising spaces and equipment to increase the efficiency of energy consumption.

Celebrations on all three campuses

As part of the Environment Week, activities related to the SusTIMEability-lab project, in which the UPV participates, will be held on 13 and 14 November; in addition, the Environmental Unit will be in the hall of the Ferrándiz building on the Alcoy campus, on the 15th; in front of the Student Recreation Centre on the Vera campus, on the 16th and in the Agora on the Gandia campus, on the 17th.
