Award-winning degree

The ETSII's Master's Degree in Industrial Safety receives the ASEIVAL's award for the best innovative initiative in 2023

[ 08/11/2023 ]

The decision was unanimous. The best innovative initiative in safety and quality in the 3rd Industrial Safety Awards is that of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). After receiving the Technical Commission's report, the jury selected the Master's Degree in Industrial Safety as the first official Master's Degree in Safety in Spain. The Master has been created by the School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) and launched this year.

"The Master is taught 50/50 by UPV Academic Staff and professionals with extensive experience in the industrial safety sector," says Beatriz García Fayos, Academic Director of the Master's Degree. "This provides students with an academic, but also practical vision of the profession, which adds value to the training," she explains. The collaborating entities are companies and institutions such as Dekra, GDES, Enagas, Saggas, Air Oca, Mazel asistencia técnica, Integra ingeniería, Arcelor Mittal, Gexcon and DNV, as well as the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Industriales, the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros técnicos and ASEIVAL, among others.

These awards are organised by ASEIVAL (Valencian Association of Inspection Entities), with the support of the Regional Government's Department of Sustainable Economy, Productive Processes, Trade and Labour, as well as the Industrial Safety Coordination Council of the Valencian Community. "These awards aim to promote and recognise the commitment to the dissemination and implementation of good practices in the field of industrial safety in the Valencia Community", says José Luis de la Rosa Marqueño, President of the Association.

In response to a need

For several years now, graduates and professionals from various sectors have been informing the UPV of the market's need to train engineering students in industrial and process safety. Backed by numerous letters of support from large and medium-sized companies, professional organisations and associations, the proposal for the design of the degree was drawn up and received a favourable report from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) in 2022.

Range of job opportunities

Graduates of the Master's Degree in Industrial Safety will be able to intervene in projects of installations, processes, products and services in this field and in their supervision. They will be able to work in process companies, consultancies, engineering companies and companies focused on verification, inspection and maintenance of installations and public administration. This Master's Degree contributes to the enrichment of the industrial network among professionals with a technical profile and a high level of training who are able to coordinate, supervise, manage and direct activities related to industrial safety in its different fields of application.

The award was accepted by Marival Segarra Oña, Vice-Rectorate for Organization of Studies, Quality, Accreditation and Languages of the UPV, and by Beatriz García Fayos, Academic Director of the Master's Degree in Industrial Safety of the School of Industrial Engineering.
