La vicerrectora de Estudiantes y Emprendimiento de la UPV, Esther Gómez Martín, nueva secretaria autonómica de Universidades de la Generalitat Valenciana

The former Vice Rector for Students and Entrepreneurship of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Maria Esther Gomez Martin has been appointed new regional secretary of Universities of the Generalitat Valenciana. This was announced Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Consell, Ruth Merino, after the celebration of an extraordinary session of the plenary that approved the decree that establishes the new organizational structure of the Valencian Government.

M. Esther Gómez Martín (Alcázar de San Juan, 1975) is a Civil Engineer by the UPV (2002), Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport by the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (2005) and PhD by the UPV (2015).

Her teaching career began in 2003 with a university teacher training grant from the ministry; in 2007 she moved to the Universitat d'Alacant as a collaborating professor. In 2015 she returned to the UPV as a visiting professor where she has worked as a contract professor in the Department of Transport Engineering and Infrastructure.

She has developed her research activity at the Institute of Transport and Territory of the UPV, in the field of Maritime Engineering. She is co-inventor of the international patent for the Cubipod®, an element for the formation of dike mantles with which she obtained the gold medal with congratulations from the jury at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva (2011). Since 2018 she has been the Deputy Director of Alumni at the ETSICCP of the UPV.

In 2021 she joined the rectoral team of José E.Capilla as Vice-Rector for Students and Entrepreneurship, from where she has launched the innovative PIAE+, the Comprehensive Plan for Student Accompaniment, which has also been awarded as the best program at national level of accompaniment and guidance to university students.

The vice-rectorate also develops other activities such as the welcome days for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students; the Spontaneous Generation congress; the StartUPV initiative, the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the UPV; or the student psychological care service (SAPE).

Now, M. Esther Gómez starts a new career in charge of the competences of the Generalitat related to universities, centers, structures and university education; promotion and development of the Valencian University System, and boosting its quality, competitiveness and internationalization; promotion of access to higher education; map of degrees of the Valencian University System; proposal of the model of university funding and university tuition fees and higher education; evaluation and foresight; and higher artistic education.
