Recuperant Patrimoni Conference
The UPV, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Valencian Regional Government, is organising this event from 4 to 7 November
[ 03/11/2026 ]
The Recuperant Patrimoni conference aims to bring together a series of presentations and best-practice examples in the restoration of Valencian cultural heritage. They aim to promote the exchange of knowledge amongst professionals, researchers, students, public authorities and stakeholders involved in heritage protection.
The programme combines technical presentations – focusing on the criteria, methodologies and experiences applied to different intervention cases – with visits to cultural heritage sites. The aim is to gain first-hand insight into the actions undertaken and to reflect on their outcomes.
Heritage Resilience
From 4 to 7 November, the conference will provide a forum for meeting, learning, and debating the current challenges facing the conservation, restoration, and management of cultural heritage.
The opening session will take place on Wednesday 4 November at 4 pm in the Refectory Hall of the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània. UPV lecturers Camilla Mileto and Fernando Vegas will present "RE-SIL(I)ENT. A study of the vulnerability and improvement of the resilience of historic residential heritage against flooding through compatible interventions".
This will be followed by a presentation by Olimpia Ferreiro Chicote, Deputy Director of Cultural Heritage and Museums at the GVA, on "The consequences of the 2024 DANA on cultural heritage. Immediate action plan from the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage. Department of Education, Culture and Universities. Valencian Regional Government".
Presentations and site visits
The afternoon will be dedicated to resilience at an international level, featuring a trip to China; a trip to Italy, in light of the high tides threatening Venice; traditional earthen architecture resilient to disasters; and an assessment of the impact of the 29 October DANA on the hydraulic heritage of l'Horta Sud.
You can view the full programme for the conference via this link; it also includes analyses of interventions in underwater heritage, castles, and ephemeral architecture, as well as how to deal with cracks, amongst many other presentations.
The presentations will be interspersed with visits to Buñol Castle, the dome of the Escuelas Pías in Valencia – which won the Europa Nostra Award for best restoration project –, Petrés Castle, the Cartuja de Vall de Crist in Altura, and the Church of Saints Justa and Rufina in Orihuela.
