Representatives from fifteen US universities visited the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) on Tuesday as part of the ICEX-NAFSA Conference and Reverse Mission, which aims to showcase the capabilities of Spanish universities and foster new opportunities for international collaboration.
During the event, jointly organised as part of the CAPTAIN project and opened by the Rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla, the US delegation learned about the university's internationalisation strategies and its strong commitment to innovation.
For Capilla, this is an "extraordinary opportunity to engage with 15 US universities, which opens the door to developing one of our priorities: our relationship with the US higher education system, the best in the world". Capilla noted that "we currently have agreements with 25 US institutions and relationships that go even further".
During the day, work was focused on plans to increase student mobility, the launch of dual degree programmes and the development of joint projects, funded by government agencies or private companies.
Representatives from Anderson University, Babson College, Binghamton University, Carnegie Mellon University, Flagler College, Hartwick College, Marian University Indianapolis, Mississippi Valley State University, Nova Southeastern University, Soka University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of South Alabama, the University System of Georgia and Virginia Commonwealth University took part in this meeting.
CAPTAIN Project
The CAPTAIN Project is an initiative led by the Universitat Politècnica de València aimed at strengthening research structures and, in turn, the business ecosystem and the wider innovation system of the Valencian Community, by improving the capacity to secure international funding for R&D&I.
The mission of the project centres on two pillars: increasing research capabilities by securing international funding for R&D&I and forging lasting partnerships with US funding bodies and companies; and creating new capabilities to boost the transfer of technology and knowledge to businesses, thereby fostering the development of new industrial sectors rooted in emerging technologies.
