Red alert for heavy rain: update on measures at the Vera and Gandia campuses on Thursday and Friday

The UPV activates emergency level 3

[ 01/10/2026 ]

In light of the developing weather situation and the activation of the red alert for heavy rain along the northern and southern coasts of Valencia, which affects the Vera and Gandia campuses, the Rector's Emergency Unit (GER) is updating the preventive measures announced yesterday. The Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Centre has issued a red alert for heavy rain in both areas of the Valencia coastline.

With the primary aim of ensuring people's safety and reducing travel during the hours of greatest risk, the Vera and Gandia campuses will close today, Thursday, 1 October, at 2.00 pm.

The following measures are being implemented:

- From 1.00 pm, staff will leave in stages as their activities are completed, to facilitate travel and avoid, as far as possible, large gatherings and traffic congestion.

- At 2.00 pm, all face-to-face activities will cease, and the buildings and facilities at the Vera and Gandia campuses will close.

- From 2.00 pm, work will be carried out remotely, provided that the nature of the duties allows it.

- All teaching activities this afternoon will take place online. Activities that cannot be carried out online must be postponed or rescheduled.

- The sports facilities, libraries and the Vera Nursery School will close at 14:00.

- Only essential staff will remain on site to ensure the security and control of the facilities and critical activities, in accordance with the instructions of the relevant departments.

Tomorrow, Friday 2 October, during the morning, the following measures will remain in place at the Vera and Gandia campuses:

- Teaching will take place online.

- Work will be carried out remotely, provided that the nature of the duties allows it.

- The sports facilities, the library, and the Vera Childcare Centre will remain closed in the morning.

- If weather and travel conditions permit, access to the campuses will be allowed for activities requiring in-person attendance, provided that appropriate precautions are taken and any travel that may pose a risk is avoided.

In all cases, it is recommended that travel be limited to what is strictly necessary, that road and transport conditions be checked in advance, and that you keep yourself informed via official channels.

Information will be updated throughout Friday morning, and the measures to be implemented in the afternoon will be communicated depending on how the weather situation develops and on guidance from the relevant authorities.

People's safety is the top priority. No member of the university community should undertake any journey that cannot be made safely.

The UPV will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate any changes via the emergency website, MiUPV and official channels.
