The Governing Council of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) met on Tuesday and approved three new measures that provide the final push for the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI), the UPV's new international campus in Hangzhou.
Firstly, the Governing Council approved the Internal Regulations of the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI). The document regulates the organisational structure, governing bodies and representation, and the academic and administrative operating procedures of the BVPI, as well as the coordination between the UPV, Beihang University and the educational authorities in Hangzhou.
Furthermore, the UPV Governing Council has agreed to establish a limited liability company (LLC) to manage institutional collaboration projects in the People's Republic of China and to oversee the administrative, financial and operational management of the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI). Among other functions, this entity will be responsible for local staff recruitment, facilities management, the administration of shared services, and the financial management of the BVPI in accordance with local regulations.
Finally, the Governing Council has approved the start of academic activities at the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) on 7 September.
José E. Capilla emphasised that "the approval of these measures represents the final push for one of the most ambitious and international projects in the history of the Universitat Politècnica de València. The start of academic activities at the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) on 7 September marks a milestone that consolidates our university's global standing and strengthens its ability to attract talent, generate knowledge and forge closer collaboration with one of the world's leading university systems".
The Rector highlighted that "this project marks a new era for the university, strengthens our position amongst the leading institutions in engineering and technology, and demonstrates that internationalisation is no longer merely a strategy, but a tangible reality for the UPV".
The BVPI will launch four new bachelor's degrees, six master's programmes, and four PhD programmes, focusing on three fields of study: telecommunications, computer engineering and artificial intelligence, and aeronautical engineering.
The four new bachelor's degrees being added to the UPV's academic offering through the BVPI are: Bachelor's Degree in Communication Networks and Systems, Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor's Degree in Intelligent Manufacturing and Bachelor's Degree in Robotics Engineering.
New Equality Plan and anti-fraud measures
In addition, the Universitat Politècnica de València's Equality Plan 2026–2030 was approved this morning. This new plan is structured around seven key areas, comprising up to 33 actions with a common objective: achieving effective equality between women and men in the development of their professional careers at the Universitat Politècnica de València.
Finally, the Governing Council, chaired by the Rector, José E. Capilla, has also agreed to various amendments to the UPV's regulations against academic fraud, to bring them into line with developments in technology and tackle the emergence of new fraudulent practices, particularly those linked to the misuse of electronic devices and artificial intelligence-based applications.
