In pursuit of the national record

Faraday Rocketry UPV returns to the launch pad to make history with Origin

[ 25/05/2026 ]

The Faraday Rocketry UPV rocketry team, part of the UPV Design Factory at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), will return to the launch pad on the morning of Friday, 29 May 2026.

After successfully validating the launcher's critical systems during the campaign on 23 February, the students returned to the El Arenosillo Experimentation Centre (CEDEA) in Huelva – facilities belonging to the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) – with a definitive goal: to complete the mission of their Origin rocket and break the national amateur altitude record.

Beyond 10 kilometres in altitude

The Origin mission represents a disruptive leap forward in the Spanish university aerospace ecosystem. It is the first launch of a two-stage rocket in the recent history of the country to be designed and manufactured entirely by students. This technically complex milestone aims to break barriers by planning a flight to an altitude of over 10 kilometres.

This new campaign is the result of over a year of uninterrupted work, fine-tuning the vehicle's subsystems based on data collected in February. The operation is made possible by INTA, the leading national public body for research and testing of defence and aerospace systems, which may soon enter into a strategic institutional partnership with the UPV focused on enhancing the technological capabilities of young talent in Spain.

Guzmán Marchesi: "Faraday never gives up"

"Many people might think 'what's the point?', but that's not how we are," explains Guzmán Marchesi Selma, CEO of Faraday Rocketry. "We want to make a statement. We want to show that Faraday never gives up. Origin aims to break away from everything we've done before and surpass ourselves. That's what Origin is for. We have a very clear goal: to become the first university in Europe to reach space and break the national apogee record. We've invested all our time over the last year to make this happen, and we fully intend to succeed," he adds.

To ensure maximum transparency and real-time tracking of the mission, Faraday Rocketry UPV will offer an official live stream of the launch via its YouTube channel, where the media and the general public can follow the countdown and the progress of the two flight stages on the morning of Friday, 29 May.

One of Spain's most ambitious student projects

Faraday Rocketry UPV is a student team part of the UPV's Design Factory programme. Founded in 2021, the team is dedicated to the design, manufacture and launch of sounding rockets. With a track record that includes victories in the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) and successful launches such as Aspera and Génesis, Faraday stands as one of Spain's most ambitious student projects, aiming to reach space—the Kármán line at an altitude of 100 km—using its own technology.
