Synergy Smart Investments and UPV launch the Synergy Tech UPV Chair in Mobile Robotics, and AI applied to Human-Robot Interaction
[ 30/04/2026 ]
Synergy Smart Investments SL and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) have signed a collaboration agreement to establish the Synergy Tech UPV Chair in Mobile Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to Human-Robot Interaction.
Aimed at promoting and developing advanced mobile robotics on quadruped and humanoid platforms -covering perception, locomotion control, and AI integration focused on human interaction- the Chair will be directed by Professor Eugenio Ivorra Martínez of the School of Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Design (ETSIADI UPV). Professor Ivorra is also a researcher at the UPV's Institute for Research in Human-Centred Technology, which will act as the main headquarters and the primary venue for the Chair's activities.
The agreement has an initial duration of two years and may be extended for up to a further four years at the initiative of either party.
Darío Samaniego: "Our main goal is to develop robotic applications that can be used by society"
Darío Samaniego, CEO of Synergy Tech, who attended the signing ceremony together with the company's project managers Elena Lunyov and Karina Logvinov, stated that "for Synergy Tech, the significance of this agreement with UPV is very high. It represents another step in a relationship that already existed through other agreements we are currently developing, but reaching the level of an endowed chair -where we can make a different kind of contribution- further consolidates our involvement and opens the door to broader collaboration with UPV, an institution we feel very comfortable working with and to which we are now even more committed."
"The challenge," he added, "is to develop different application pathways for quadruped and biped robots real solutions that can later be transferred and used by society, which is our main goal."
"Why UPV? Because there are people here with the right mindset who immediately grasp the idea, and sometimes, when you approach an institution, you find exactly those people. We found them here, at UPV. It was almost automatic. Once we saw that shared understanding and the possibility of working together, and realised that everything we needed was already in place, there was no need to look any further," he explained.
José Esteban Capilla: "This Chair places UPV at the forefront of strategic areas such as advanced robotics and AI applied to human interaction"
For his part, the Rector of UPV, José Esteban Capilla, highlighted that the launch of the Synergy Tech UPV Chair "places our university at the forefront of strategic fields such as advanced robotics and AI applied to human interaction. This agreement allows us to strengthen research, hands-on teaching and knowledge transfer in technologies with enormous potential for social and industrial impact."
He also noted that UPV "has one of the broadest and most dynamic university-industry chair ecosystems in the country, which demonstrates our ability to build meaningful partnerships, anticipate technological trends and offer students learning opportunities aligned with future challenges."
Eugenio Ivorra: "This collaboration comes at a key moment, as humanoid and mobile robotics are becoming a new technological revolution"
According to Eugenio Ivorra, Director of the Chair, "this collaboration comes at a key moment. Humanoid and mobile robotics are moving beyond a future promise to become a new technological revolution, with increasingly rapid advances in artificial intelligence, perception, locomotion and human interaction. In this context, collaboration between universities and companies is not merely beneficial-it is essential."
"To play an active role in this transformation," he continued, "university talent needs direct access to cutting-edge technology, real platforms and challenges closely aligned with those already shaping the future of advanced robotics."
In this regard, "the Synergy Tech UPV Chair will enable our students and researchers to work with next-generation quadruped and humanoid robots, learning not only how they operate, but how they can be integrated in a useful, safe and responsible way into society. Early exposure to frontier technology will be decisive in training professionals capable of leading this revolution."
Synergy Tech
Synergy Smart Investments SL (Synergy Tech) is a technology company based in Alicante, specialising in the integration and development of high-complexity advanced robotics solutions. Its business model focuses on transforming state-of-the-art robotic platforms into deployable, scalable end solutions for high-value sectors, with a growing emphasis on assistive robotics and the silver economy.
The company is an official Gold Partner and distributor of Unitree Robotics in Spain, a world-leading manufacturer of next?generation quadruped and humanoid robots. This position places Synergy Tech among the manufacturer's top three global distributors, a distinction recognised by the Market Expansion Excellence Award granted by Unitree Robotics. This status ensures preferential access to the most advanced robotic platforms on the market, including the Go2 and G1 models, which will be used as physical experimental platforms in PROASSIST. It also enables direct technical collaboration with the manufacturer, eliminating reliance on intermediaries and reducing hardware integration times.
Synergy Tech's technical expertise ranges from mechatronic engineering and industrial design to low-level software development and kinematic control. The company routinely integrates new technologies into its robotic platforms and operates its own facilities totalling approximately 400 m² across four floors. These include a robotics development and programming laboratory, a systems integration and validation area, and a demonstration and training zone. The facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art workstations for programming and simulation, as well as full infrastructure for sensor and payload integration testing, functional validation, and field-deployment preparation.
The company also maintains established strategic relationships with major corporations that have validated its technical capabilities in demanding industrial robotics projects, including Repsol, Telefónica Tech and Siemens. These references, drawn from sectors with strict reliability and operational safety requirements, provide a strong credibility benchmark for the assistive-technology sector when assessing Synergy Tech as a technology provider.
