CYPE and UPV launch the CYPE Chair to promote innovation and digitalisation in construction
[ 29/04/2026 ]
CYPE Ingenieros SA and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) have signed a collaboration agreement earlier today, leading to the establishment of the CYPE Chair for Innovation and Digitalisation in Construction.
The agreement, with an initial duration of one year and extendable for up to four further years, aims to promote practical training for students and the wider university community in the field of digitalisation of technical design and construction processes. This will be achieved through the dissemination of knowledge, methodologies and digital tools applied to architecture, engineering and construction.
The activities of the CYPE Chair, which will support the development of professional competences aligned with the current needs of the sector, will be developed primarily through the Mechanics of Continuous Media and Theory of Structures Department.
Begoña Serrano Lanzarote, senior lecturer at the School of Architecture (ETSA-UPV) and researcher in the UPV Mechanics of Continuous Media and Theory of Structures Department, will head the newly created chair.
Benjamín González: "This is not about putting a logo in a classroom, but about promoting real knowledge transfer"
"What we find most rewarding is that this is not a conventional sponsorship agreement," said Benjamín González Cantó, Managing Director of CYPE, "but an opportunity to add real value to the sector, to connect talent, knowledge and practical experience within a structured and stable framework of collaboration with one of Spain's leading technological universities."
"This chair," he added, "is conceived with a long-term perspective and a genuinely broad programme of activities: training, research, awards for bachelor's and master's theses, technical workshops, innovation projects and publications. This is not about putting a logo in a classroom, but about promoting a real channel for knowledge transfer in the field of construction digitalisation and creating new opportunities for the professionals who will lead the evolution of the sector in the coming years."
"For CYPE," he continued, "this is a particularly significant project. Today's students are the engineers and architects who will decide which digital tools to use in their projects tomorrow, and being present at this stage of their education allows us to build familiarity with our technology from the very beginning of their professional careers. Moreover, the timing could not be more appropriate. The changes currently underway demand a robust technological offering: new cloud platforms, BIM integration, cross-disciplinary connectivity, and the integration of artificial intelligence into calculations and regulatory compliance. The chair provides the ideal framework to bring these capabilities into the academic environment, to contribute to the debate on how the next generation of professionals should be prepared, and, at the same time, to benefit from the talent and research generated at UPV. It is a mutually enriching relationship and one that is especially meaningful to us, as the Comunitat Valenciana is where we were founded as a company," González Cantó concluded.
UPV, a national benchmark with more than 100 active endowed chairs
For his part, UPV Rector José E. Capilla emphasised that "the creation of the CYPE Chair strengthens our strategic commitment to education that is closely connected to the realities of the sector and focused on the challenges of digitalisation in architecture, engineering and construction. This agreement not only enhances students' practical training in advanced tools and methodologies, but also consolidates close collaboration between the university and industry."
In this regard, the head of the Universitat Politècnica de València highlighted that "with more than 100 active endowed chairs, UPV has established itself as Spain's leading university in this model of cooperation, which is key to knowledge transfer, fostering innovation and improving graduate employability."
