10th Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards

The 10th Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards have been announced. The best athletes of 2025 from the Universitat Politècnica de València were Bernat Ferrer, in the Mountain Racing category, and Pau Gimeno, in the Wrestling category.

The Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Special Awards for the best graduates from the universities of the Valencian Community went to Alba Rey, in the Karate category from the Universitat Politècnica de València, and Francisco de Asís, in the Basketball category from the Catholic University of Valencia.

Each year, 16 awards are given, two per university, one for the male category and one for the female category, worth €1,000 each and a commemorative plaque. They are intended for students who successfully combine university studies with sport.

In addition, two Extraordinary Awards are given annually to the best student athletes (male and female categories) who have already completed their university studies in the Valencian Community, according to an established scale. These awards are worth €2,000 and include a commemorative plaque. They symbolise the foundation's commitment to a holistic vision of success: shaping well-prepared, competitive individuals with values.

UniEsport 2026

For the tenth consecutive year, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation has renewed its commitment to the eight Valencian universities through UniEsport 2026, an initiative promoted by the organisation chaired by Juan Roig. These awards aim to promote university sport and financially reward students' academic and sporting efforts.

The Universitat Jaume I in Castellón hosted the awards ceremony on Monday, 2 March, at which the UniEsport 2026 collaboration agreement was formalised. The event brought together rectors, vice-rectors, and institutional representatives from various universities, along with the Foundation's director, Juan Miguel Gómez. The rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, José E. Capilla, stressed that 'our athletes represent the best of public universities: effort, discipline, the ability to excel and commitment to their education'.

UniEsport was created with a clear purpose: to raise awareness among young people of the importance of balancing sport and studies. The renewal of the agreement consolidates a collaboration that has spanned all areas of university sport over the last 10 years, from supporting students who compete in high-level sport while completing their studies to providing financial support to those who participate in international tournaments. It also enhances the visibility of the Autonomous Community University Sports Championship (CADU). It promotes the Comunitat de l'Esport brand, which will continue to appear on the universities' official sports kits.
