O-CITY, new spin-off

The first spin-off from the Gandia Campus is focused on preserving and promoting heritage and traditions through technology.

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has added a new spin-off to its entrepreneurial ecosystem: Cityverse Technologies (O-CITY), focused on preserving and promoting urban heritage and traditions through digital technologies.

The incorporation agreement was signed by the Rector, José E. Capilla; Professor José Marín-Roig, as research partner; and the six founding partners of the project: Lola Ángel, Marta Asensi, Daniel Burruchaga, Alexander Díaz, Jorge Marín-Roig, and Pedro Monteros.

The Rector noted that the creation of O-CITY reinforces the UPV's commitment to innovation with social and territorial impact, capable of transferring university knowledge to the cultural sphere. With this addition, the university now has more than 30 active spin-offs, 23 of which it has a direct stake in. Marín-Roig highlighted that this is the first spin-off from the Gandia Campus and that it originated from a project developed there.

The company emerged from the O-CITY technology platform, a European project promoted by the Gandia Campus to disseminate tangible and intangible heritage. The campus director, Vicenç Almenar, emphasised that the initiative demonstrates that cultural heritage and technology can go hand in hand.

In its new phase, the project is promoting the digital recovery of legends such as L'Àngel d'Ayora, La llegenda de Manúrria, La serp de la Venta, La Mare de Déu de la Font, and La Delicà de Gandia, which have been turned into animated short films using artificial intelligence tools. Its promoters emphasise that these productions make intangible heritage accessible without losing its essence.
