Samuel Gil, new president of the CEUPV
The 23-year-old student from Alicante is the head of a Council whose main challenge is to 'address the integration of AI into teaching most fairly and protectively for students'

Samuel Gil Medina (Alicante, 5 March 2002) is the new president of the Student Council of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Student Union representative for the UPV Alcoi Campus for two years and first vice-president of the previous team led by Elena García Lleó, Samuel takes up the position with a clear goal: 'To address the integration of AI in teaching most fairly and protectively for students.'
'One of the main challenges we face is dealing with everything related to anti-fraud measures, exam copying and so on,' explains Samuel, 'because now, with the integration of AI into teaching, a gap is emerging between how quickly we students are implementing it and how the university is doing so, which, being such a large institution, is somewhat slower'.
A responsibility and a great opportunity... with self-imposed limits
For Samuel, becoming president of the CEUPV 'means a great responsibility,' but also 'the opportunity to contribute to the improvements that students consider necessary for this university'. He is currently finishing his master's thesis in Design Engineering after completing his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering at the UPV's Alcoi campus.
This situation makes it easier for him to balance his academic responsibilities and student representation, although he recognises that it is key to 'respect the limits we set ourselves', because 'it is very easy to fall into the temptation of constantly saying "come on, I'm going to do this, meet with the other person, propose this initiative...". It's good to force yourself to go home some days'.
'I've always liked being part of something bigger.'
Benefiting from a smooth transition from his previous vice-presidency alongside Elena, with whom he claims to have been 'one and the same,' Samuel's trajectory owes its origins to his vocation to 'always be part of something bigger than ourselves.'
'What's more,' he adds with satisfaction, 'I have been fortunate to have been accompanied by many people throughout this time. '
A team of 26 people representing more than 34,000 students
Samuel is not lying. Just look at the large team that makes up the CEUPV he leads. No less than 26 people, including Diego León Pérez as secretary and four vice-presidents: Esther Saiz Valero (University Policy), Pau Gómez Tronchoni (Academic Affairs), Marcos Pérez Hortelano (University Life) and Alejandro Notario Soto (Communication).
Together, they represent the more than 34,000 students at the UPV, who have at their disposal a Council whose physical offices are located on the third floor of the Calum-Casa de l'Estudiant (4K) building and who can be contacted either by telephone (963 87 74 08) or by email ceupv@upv.es and via their official website.
