[ 11/02/2026 ]

The tender for the design of the new 8S Building, also known as the TRL Building (Technology Readiness Levels), has been published. This is a strategic infrastructure aimed at strengthening the innovation ecosystem on campus and promoting the technological maturity of research projects and their connections to the business community. The building will have an approximate budget of around €30 million and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

The future building will be located on the Vera campus, next to Avenida de los Naranjos, on a currently undeveloped plot. It will have a basement, ground floor and five additional floors. It's more than 3,300 square metres per floor, which will house prototyping workshops, flexible laboratories, offices, coworking areas, an auditorium, and spaces for innovative knowledge-based business initiatives.

The Rector of the UPV has highlighted that this infrastructure 'represents a firm commitment to turning our university's talent and research into real impact for society'. In this regard, he has emphasised that 'the TRL Building will be a bridge between science and business, a place where ideas can evolve into technological solutions with economic and social value'.

The project responds to the need to provide the university community with modern, versatile spaces that enable progress across the innovation value chain. 'We want to offer our research teams the tools and facilities they need to take their developments from the laboratory to industrial application. This building is designed precisely for that purpose: to accelerate knowledge transfer and generate new opportunities,' said the Rector.

With an estimated budget of around €30 million, the new building will integrate common product development services, prototype manufacturing areas, pilot plants, and areas for business interaction. Its design will prioritise modularity and flexibility of use, allowing it to adapt to different needs over time.

The Rector also emphasised the strategic nature of the project. 'The UPV is a driving force for innovation in the Valencian Community, and with this infrastructure, we are reinforcing our commitment to economic development and the creation of a new business fabric. It is an investment in the future, in skilled employment and in competitiveness,' he noted.

According to the planned schedule, once design and construction are complete, the building is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2029. 'Our goal is for this new infrastructure to become a benchmark for open innovation and collaboration between universities, businesses and institutions,' concluded the Rector.

With this initiative, the Universitat Politècnica de València is strengthening its position as a leading university in applied research and technology transfer, consolidating a campus model geared towards generating impact and serving society.
