Inauguration at ETSINF

Andrés Martín Terrasa Barrena takes on the challenge of leading the UPV's School of Informatics with enthusiasm.

[ 05/02/2026 ]

He is thrilled to take on this challenge in a context that he has described as 'uncertain but, at the same time, exciting for computer science and for the university'. Andrés Martín Terrasa Barrena was appointed Dean of the School of Informatics (ETSINF) at the Universitat Politècnica de València at a ceremony held on Friday, 30 January. Martín Terrasa was elected in the elections held on 10 December 2025.

For the new Dean, leading the school where he studied is 'a huge surprise'. From the perspective of the student who began his career in 1988, he acknowledged that he never imagined he would hold this position, either as a student or later as a senior lecturer at the UPV. 'From my current position, it is a source of enormous pride and a great responsibility,' he said.

A vocation for leadership and new challenges

Martín Terrasa explained that the decision to run for the leadership of ETSINF came after eight years at the helm of the Computer Systems and Computation Department. 'Many colleagues encouraged me to take this step, although I hesitated for several months,' he said. He hopes to lead, together with his team, the changes ETSINF will face in the coming years to adapt to a constantly changing environment.

Consolidating growth and adapting to change

His programme for the next six years is based on two fundamental axes. The first is based on the observation that ETSINF has grown into a large school, with significant increases in degrees and students in recent years. This evolution 'requires us to rethink internal procedures to consolidate this growth in an orderly manner and claim the necessary resources,' he explains.

The second pillar focuses on the need to closely observe the social and professional changes resulting from technological advances, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics. 'Only by remaining vigilant will we be able to adapt and remain relevant to students, society and the profession,' he said.

The rector of the upv, José Capilla, presided over the inauguration ceremony, which was also attended by the general secretary of the upv, Antoni Claver, and the outgoing director, Vicente Pelechano, who replaced Silvia Terrasa when she assumed the position of vice-rector for Digital Transformation.

Academic profile

Born in Valencia on 10 November 1970, Andrés Martín Terrasa Barrena holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de València and is a Senior Lecturer in the Computer Systems and Computation Department. He teaches courses related to Systems Administration and Databases.

He has a special interest in teaching innovation and regularly collaborates with the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE), where he teaches courses on educational platforms and reverse teaching. He belongs to the VRAIN research institute, where he conducts his research in the field of multi-agent systems.

In the field of university management, he has been Vice-Dean of Academic Planning at the former Faculty of Computer Science, as well as Deputy Director of Teaching and Head of the Computer Systems and Computation Department.

On a personal level, the new director of ETSINF devotes as much time as possible to his family and exercises regularly. Swimming is his best ally for disconnecting from technology and immersing himself in caring for his 'physical and mental health,' as he explains.
