[ 28/01/2026 ]

The Hangzhou international campus is ready to welcome UPV faculty, and the admission process in China for the 2026/2027 academic year is already underway.

Everything is now in place to welcome students and teaching staff. An internal launch meeting for the Beihang-Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) has been held. It took place on Sunday, 18 January 2026, at the International Campus in Hangzhou (China). The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Rector of Beihang University, Zhao Weisheng. Representing the Universitat Politècnica de València was Professor Josep Tornero Montserrat, who is also the Secretary General of the Beihang-Europe Cooperation Committee.

The meeting was attended by staff from Beihang University's Hangzhou International Innovation Institute (H3I), as well as Deans and Vice-Deans from the various research centres located on the Hangzhou International Campus.

Josep Tornero explained that the meeting 'served as a forum for discussing various issues of interest, reviewing the fourteen degrees that will be offered (four bachelor's degrees, six master's degrees, four doctoral programmes) and their status in terms of processing by Spain'. In addition, the student admission process, already underway in the Chinese education system, was explained, the status of the facilities was reviewed, and teaching plans were established. Classes are scheduled to begin on 5 September 2026.

Appointments

The event also served as the official appointment ceremony for Josep Tornero as Guest Professor and International Affairs Consultant at the Hangzhou International Innovation Institute. This position is in addition to his role as Secretary General of the Beihang-Europe Cooperation Committee (BECC), which he has held since last December.

Josep Tornero explained that Beihang University 'is impressive with facilities ready for the arrival of students and academic staff'. He encouraged UPV academic staff to 'live this experience' of teaching at a Chinese university campus.

The BVPI will welcome a total of 2,000 students in the 2026/2027 academic year. The Chinese government has already approved the admission process, which will be based on an exam equivalent to the Spanish university entrance exam, called GaoKao. The admission process has already been agreed upon and is ongoing for student enrolment. Teaching will be in English and will involve academic staff from the UPV and the Chinese counterpart. A total of 200 lecturers will travel, the number is yet to be determined, for stays of between four and six weeks, with intensive training.

The campus offers everything necessary for living and is fully equipped with sports facilities and a variety of services. It is a half-hour walk from an urban area and is connected to the city of Hangzhou, with a population of 10 million, by bus and taxi.
