Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), internationally recognised as the world's leading benchmark in university assessment, has published the results of its 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). Once again, these results endorse the educational prestige of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), which is ranked among the 400 best universities in the world across 17 disciplines.

Thus, according to the Shanghai ranking, the UPV is the best university in Spain for studying Agricultural Sciences, Civil Engineering, and Energy Science and Engineering.

Top 75 worldwide in Civil Engineering

Likewise, Jiao Tong University includes the UPV among the 75 best universities in the world for Civil Engineering and in the top 100 for Agricultural Sciences. Expanding the scope to the 200 most prominent universities, the Shanghai ranking by subject also recognises the UPV for studying Food Science and Technology (top 150) and Mathematics.

The UPV's presence in GRAS 2025 is even greater within the global top 300, where the institution led by José E. Capilla appears in a total of 10 disciplines, adding to the above: Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumental Sciences and Technologies, Energy Science and Engineering, Management, Veterinary Sciences, and Business Administration.

Top 3 nationally in 9 subjects

At the national level, in addition to the three leadership positions mentioned above (in the case of Agricultural Sciences alone), the Shanghai ranking places the UPV as the second-best university in Spain for studying Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering, and third in Telecommunications Engineering, Instrumental Sciences and Technologies, Food Science and Technology, and Remote Sensing.

Best technological university in Spain according to the overall ranking

In general, it should be noted that Shanghai Jiao Tong University also publishes its benchmark ranking, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), every August 15. In its latest edition, the UPV is once again included in the global top 500 for the 21st consecutive year.

Not surprisingly, the UPV is the only Spanish technological university among the 500 best universities in the world. The podium in this field is completed by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), ranked 601-700, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), ranked 701-800.
