Our welcome pack. Creating an Unforgettable Experience for Young Talent Joining the Company. That was the challenge set for the ninth edition of Quédate, the programme run by the Universitat Politècnica de València to retain talent in the Valencian Community. A selection of 100 brilliant students, out of 500 applications received, participated in groups of nine to solve this challenge on the morning of 27 November. It was an intense day of dynamics, networking and professional selection. (Video)
A pioneering programme to retain talent
Since its launch, "Quédate" has established itself as a strategic initiative for retaining talent in the Valencian and Spanish environment. Its model combines the evaluation of merits (academic record, languages, internships, participation in projects) with group dynamics and a detailed CV profile until the selection is made.
The programme concluded with a networking session that facilitated contact between young people and companies. It even led to some job opportunities being secured—all this to promote quality employment for the brightest students and prevent brain drain.
For the UPV, the programme is key to its strategy of connecting with the Valencian productive fabric, as explained by the Vice-Rector for Employment, Continuing Education and Languages, Elena de la Poza: "At the Universitat Politècnica de València, we firmly believe in our commitment to society: to train the best and, at the same time, to retain that talent here, in Valencia and in Spain. Programmes such as "Quédate" are not only a gateway to the labour market, but also a bridge between the university and companies where knowledge is turned into action and progress. We are committed to young people with potential and enthusiasm, to build a prosperous future that will benefit our community."
Connecting young talent and business
With a percentage of internship and employment contract offers exceeding 75% in its ninth edition, "Quédate" has established itself as one of the most important university events in the Valencian Community for connecting young talent and business. This is the case of Sofía Borrás, who holds a double degree in Computer Engineering and Business Administration, and, thanks to her participation in Quédate, is now a systems auditor at EY. She has been attending Quédate for two years. Still, now, from the company side, as part of EY, she participates in recruiting students. She is 'very grateful' to Quédate, which she considers a 'special, unique and perfect event for students'.
This year, the winning team was number eight, comprising Juan Amado, Marina Aparicio, Julen Astiz, Hugo Morcillo, Álvaro Pérez, Karen Pironi, Lucía Poveda, Balma Quiles, Sol Ramírez, and César Sánchez.
Companies that prevent brain drain
For participating companies, "Quédate" is a direct way to identify talent with scholarly excellence and interpersonal skills. Participants included AIMPLAS (Plastics Technology Centre), AINIA (Agricultural Research Institute), Airbus, Andersen, Grupo Bertolín, Caixabank, Celestica, Delibreads, Deloitte, Edicover Empresa Constructora, Edwards Lifesciences, El Corte Inglés, EY, Ford, FORVIA Faurecia, GMV, Grefusa, Grupotec, Guerola Construcción, IT8, Jones Engineering, Motilla, Nealis, NTT Data, Panamar, Grupo Pavasal, Sacyr, Serveo, Siemens, Stadler, Torrecid, as well as Grupo La Plana as a dynamic company and Valencia City Council through the Talent Chair.
