Fighting the silent health crisis

UPV start-up EBHealth3 secures €750,000 investment from Berlin's StageTwo to scale up production of its Wellness Watcher

[ 12/11/2025 ]

EBHealth3, the company created to market the Wellness Watcher, a specific product for non-invasive and preventive monitoring of gastrointestinal health invented by the computer engineer from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Pablo Gonzálvez, has obtained €750,000 in investment -pending the relevant due diligence of the company- for its project at StageTwo 2025, the prestigious European competition promoting the leading start-ups emerging from the university environment, held in Berlin (Germany).

The project, which is supported by and currently based at IDEAS UPV, the Entrepreneurship Area of the Universitat Politècnica de València, is the result of the joint work of Gonzálvez and his entire team, made up of Enrique Juan, Laijie Ji, Javier Herranz, María José González and a large group of doctors and nurses.

If I can't find it... I'll create it

‘The Wellness Watcher was born as a response to an unmet need, when I started looking for a product that I couldn't find on the market,’ says Pablo Gonzálvez.

‘If you go to the doctor with recurring gastrointestinal problems, most specialists ask you how your bowel movements are, to which most people respond ‘normal’, ‘fine’, ‘I don’t know’, because no one has anything to compare it to, and people usually don’t know what to look for and monitor,’ explains the CEO and co-founder of EBHealth3.

33% of bowel-related symptoms go unreported

According to the American Gastroenterological Association, 33% of bowel-related symptoms go unreported. "Constipation is silent. Inflammation is silent. Urine tells a story, but it is often silent. Manual tracking is slow and unreliable. There is no early warning. All of this poses a risk to older adults and patients with inflammatory bowel disease," warns EBHealth3.

As a solution, Wellness Watcher provides continuous, automatic, and objective monitoring, enabling the detection and interpretation of symptoms for proactive and preventive care. To achieve this, the technology developed by EBHealth3 utilises intestinal, consistency, urinary, nutritional, and hydration biomarkers. It employs computer vision, artificial intelligence, radio frequency identification, Bluetooth, and automatic alerts, all in a device that is easily integrated.

The importance of training at the UPV and the link with IDEAS

'Although EBHealth3 was founded 10 years after I graduated from the UPV with a degree in Computer Engineering, I would say that the UPV has played a very important role in my professional career,' says Pablo Gonzálvez.

‘In addition,’ he adds, "IDEAS has supported us from the beginning, both with training—which we really needed at the start—and with visibility through awards and events, as well as introducing us to corporates and investors. On top of that, thanks to the StartUPV programme, we have offices located within the UPV's Vera (València) campus, in a startup ecosystem that is always helpful, as you are surrounded by other startups that may have similar problems or concerns to ours.

The next step: scale-up production

At this point, ‘the next and most important step is to plan the scale production of the Wellness Watcher,’ says Gonzálvez. ‘Right now, we have pilot projects in place with groups of nursing homes, and our next milestone will be to have the capacity to scale up the production of the Wellness Watcher not only to serve the aforementioned pilot projects, but also to large groups in hundreds of nursing homes at the same time.’

The UPV, present at StageTwo since its creation

The UPV has been present at StageTwo since its inception. In the first edition of StageTwo, held in 2021 with the participation of 28 universities from 14 countries, the UPV was the only Spanish university present. It did so with Arkadia Space and Binartis (that year, each university presented two startups).

Since then, the Universitat Politécnica de la València has not missed a single year. In 2022, it was present with Nela Biodinamycs; in 2023, with Therminer (currently called Hotta); in 2024, with BeMore3D; and in this edition, with EBHealth3, winner of the investment highlighted in a competition in which more than 45 startups from more than 40 university entrepreneurship centres and four invited participants took part. Finally, it is worth noting that the audience comprised more than 70 leading European venture capital firms and approximately 30 industry leaders.
