The UPV honours the 600 students with the best academic records and the 120 with the highest entrance exam scores

[ 03/10/2025 ]

They combine talent and effort, and their results speak for themselves. They are outstanding students, and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), is proud of them and has recognised the 600 students with the best academic records for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years and the 120 students with the highest entrance exam scores for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 in a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Nexus building.

Presided over by the rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla, the event was also attended by the rector of the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, Juan José Ruiz, and the director general of Universities, José Antonio Pérez, among other personalities.

Six extraordinary awards

These awards, established during the 2007-2008 academic year to recognise the students with the highest entrance exam scores at the UPV, have grown to also distinguish the students with the best academic records in each subsequent year.

Specifically, this year, 60 awards have been given to students with the highest admission marks from the University Entrance Exams or Higher Vocational Training Programmes for the 2023-2024 academic year, and the same number for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Likewise, 63 awards were given to first-year students, 59 to second-year students, 54 to third-year students, 52 to fourth-year students, and 8 to fifth-year students, all corresponding to the 2022-2023 academic year. Additionally, 56 awards were given to students who completed their undergraduate studies with the best marks during that period.

Similarly, the UPV has recognised 64 first-year students, 63 second-year students, 58 third-year students, 53 fourth-year students and 10 fifth-year students with the highest marks in the 2023-2024 academic year, in addition to awarding 60 prizes to students who completed their undergraduate studies during that academic year.

In addition to this, the UPV has awarded six special awards - three per academic year - to the students with the best academic records. These include an exemption from paying public tuition fees for academic services if the award-winning graduates enrol in a university master's degree offered by the UPV.

José E. Capilla invites the most brilliant students to complete their comprehensive education: ‘The UPV goes beyond the curriculum.’

‘Welcoming this event is one of the most wonderful things a rector can do,’ said José E. Capilla, head of the UPV. ‘Seeing the joy of this recognition, which is so necessary... because people need recognition for their achievements, for their efforts,’ he added.

In his message to the award winners, the rector has also wanted to highlight the students' actions during the tragedy of 29 October, which forced the postponement of the event; as a result, this year's event is hosting twice as many award winners. 'With regard to the DANA, I would like to recall the example set by the university community and, in particular, the students, many of whom are here today and were there at the time, trying to help in every way possible,' he said gratefully.

Finally, the rector has sent a message to the award winners, reminding them that, in addition to their scholarly brilliance, they can further complement their education with all the extracurricular activities offered by the UPV: "The UPV is committed to providing students with a comprehensive education that goes beyond the conventional, beyond what is learned in the laboratory or in the classroom... The UPV goes beyond the curriculum, highlighting the more than 10,000 paid internships we manage each year. It is highly unlikely that a UPV student who wishes to undertake an internship during their degree will be left without one. Not to mention the opportunities for international mobility, collaborations with departments and research institutes, sports activities, student representation, UPV Design Factory, a unique programme in the Spanish university system that continues to accumulate successes and in which we already have more than 5,000 students involved... a huge range of possibilities that help to achieve that comprehensive education.‘

'Some of you are about to finish, but others have a long way to go at the UPV, and that is why I am telling you this, so that you try to make the most of the possibilities offered by the university, because it is this comprehensive education, in which the UPV also values, for example, entrepreneurial activities, that will prepare you for your future," he added before concluding by recalling the UPV's connection with its social and economic environment.

'We are the university with the highest number of active chairs and business classrooms at the moment, exceeding 110. And what these chairs allow, with resources that come mainly from companies, but also from public administrations, is to complement your education and help you obtain profiles that are closer to those you will find when you embark on your professional project,' he concluded.

Victoria González: ‘The foundation I acquired at the UPV has always been with me.’

A professional with more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications, acoustics, e-commerce and healthcare product sectors, who has held positions of high technical responsibility, strategic leadership and project management in both her own companies and in private sector firms, Victoria Eugenia González Gutiérrez, a graduate in Telecommunications Engineering, Sound and Image from the UPV, UPV Alumni, and co-founder of IONCLINICS & DEIONIC SL, was the person chosen to address the award winners.

‘Today we celebrate your talent and your efforts. You all have something in common: you have demonstrated academic excellence, and that deserves public recognition such as this,’ said the Alumni UPV. "A few years ago, I was in your situation, with the same desire to learn and also with doubts about the path to follow. What I didn't know then was that the UPV would not only give me a solid technical education, but also a way of thinking, a way of analysing problems, innovating and working in a team," she added.

A renowned professional, González endorses the influence of the UPV throughout her outstanding career: "I have seen that the foundation I acquired at the UPV has always been with me: curiosity, technical rigour, critical thinking and, above all, the confidence that engineering can improve people's lives. However, in addition to the scholarly aspect, the UPV gave me something very valuable: a community. Being part of the Alumni UPV and having been a UPV student has allowed me to maintain a living link with the university, collaborate on projects, participate in initiatives, and stay in touch with colleagues who, like me, believe in giving back to the university some of what we received from it.

In this regard, González has particularly emphasised the value of Alumni UPV: "Made up of more than 78,000 graduates, Alumni UPV is a network that not only offers a sense of belonging and shared pride, but also very specific opportunities that will open doors for your scholars and professional future. University does not end with a course or a diploma; the UPV is a continuous space for growth, innovation and collaboration, and you are an example of the spirit of excellence that distinguishes this university," she concluded.
