Promoting science
FIRST® LEGO® League is an international educational programme promoted by LEGO® Education and the FIRST® Foundation, which encourages technological vocations among students through learning experiences based on robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) areas.
In Spain, the 19th FIRST® LEGO® League consists of 34 qualifying events, such as the one that has taken place in Valencia.
The organisers emphasise that this meeting has been possible thanks to the commitment of the volunteers, the collaborating entities, such as the Asociación Ingeniera Soy and the LEGO® Foundation, and the STEAM Chair, organiser of the event in Valencia.
The sea, the protagonist
Every year, FIRST® LEGO® League presents a challenge (inspired by a real-world area). In this edition, entitled 'SUBMERGED', the focus is on the oceans and the seabed.
Using creative thinking and LEGO® technology, each team has developed an innovation project over months and has designed and programmed a LEGO® robot.
In addition to approaching science and technology, the initiative has allowed them to develop learning habits, values and teamwork skills.
From the Social Council of the UPV, they value this event as 'a new success for the STEAM Chair and, especially, its trustees, ‘nearly 40 companies and institutions firmly committed to the Chair, whom we must thank for their continuous support and their strong dedication to the promotion of these disciplines and values among young people’.
