Have you had a problem at the UPV and want to file a complaint with a body with capacity, confidentiality and independence? Go to the University Ombuds Office, the body that defends the rights of members of the university community and seeks solutions to conflicts that arise within the institution.
Ana Belén Anquela, the current ombudsperson, explains how the body works.
‘Any member of the university community: PTGAS, teachers and students. Even if someone outside the UPV has some kind of conflict with a university procedure, we also deal with them’.
‘We are an independent body and are not subject to any mandate. We are answerable to the people who come to tell us about their problems, and obviously, we do not follow any kind of guideline’.
‘Normally, people who come to the University Ombuds Office have a conflict. There are interpersonal ones, which are the most difficult to resolve, but other types of problems are easily solved with the UPV regulations, which are the majority. The interpersonal ones are more complex, and that is where the University Ombuds Office has a more important role of mediating so that the two parties can reach a consensual solution’.
