Nearly 600 guidance counsellors from schools in the Valencian Community attended the XXIV Guidance Day at the Universitat Politècnica de València to learn first-hand about the new features of the University Entrance Exams (PAU) 2025.
Antoni Gil, coordinator of the exams in the Comunitat Valenciana, has highlighted the main changes. One of them is that starting this year, the weightings (value given to the marks of some courses depending on the degree you want to study) will expire after 3 years and not after 2 years, as before.
This is an advantage for people who decide to do a Higher Training Cycle after the Baccalaureate and the PAU, as in 2027, they will still be able to access university with the marks obtained in 2025.
On the other hand, people with a recognised disability of less than 33% can also access university through the quota of places reserved for students with disabilities; in other words, priority is still given to students with a disability equal to or greater than 33% but, if not all the places in this quota are filled, it can be completed with students with a lower level of disability, provided that adaptations have been required during their previous schooling.
The main novelty of the 2025 PAU is that the maximum optional nature of the exams, which was introduced after the COVID-19 pandemic, is eliminated; in addition, all exams must include a competency question in which knowledge is applied.
In addition, spelling mistakes will now be deducted from the final exam mark, between one and two points, depending on the course.
Another novelty is that in the PAU, students can take the exam in any of the four languages taught in the Valencian Community (English, French, German and Italian), even if they have not studied them in the Baccalaureate.
In the optional phase of the PAU, a maximum of 3 subjects may be chosen (previously 4), except if one is a foreign language; in this case, up to 4 subjects may be selected (2 may be foreign languages).
In addition, in this voluntary phase, you can choose from any of the 33 Baccalaureate subjects, an extension of previous years.
Esther Gómez, regional secretary for Universities of the Generalitat Valenciana, explained that students affected by the DANA can choose, individually, if they prefer to take the PAU exams in the ordinary exam session in June or in the ordinary exam session on 1, 2 and 3 July. If you choose the latter, you can take the exam in the extraordinary exam session on 22, 23 and 24 July. In this way, an extra exam session is added for the affected students.
Esther Gómez also pointed out that in 2025, the management of waiting lists will be centralised by the Conselleria so that each student will choose which lists they want to remain on. It will be the only system that will allocate places as they become available, which will save changes in enrolment for this reason.
José Francisco Monserrat, Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation and Communication of the UPV, has presented the five new degrees that the UPV is preparing to increase the offer of degrees in the academic year 2025 - 2026.
These are the Bachelor's Degree in Artificial Intelligence, which will be taught on the Alcoy and Vera campuses; the double Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering + Textile Technology and Design Engineering, on the Alcoy campus; the double Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences and Marine Sciences and Technologies, on the Gandia campus and the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering and the double Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology and Chemistry, on the Vera campus.
The culmination of the 24th Orientation Day was the story of the personal overcoming of Javier García Pajares, ambassador of ILUNION, who explained how he began to acquire deafblindness when he was just a child, how he learned new systems of communication and reading and writing and all the challenges he had to face.
Javier has a double degree in Law and Business Administration and combines his professional activity with his role as a father and sportsman. An advocate of full inclusion and the elimination of barriers of any kind, the ILUNION ambassador advocates for all people to have access to a full life.
The video of the event will soon be available on the website of the XXIV Guidance Day.
