Inspiring the future
3,000 schoolchildren attend the final of the UP Steam Competition, promoted by The Social Council of the UPV

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) hosted the final gala of the fifth edition of Up! STEAM, the most important student competition with the greatest impact in Spain, promoted by The Social Council of the UPV, which seeks to inspire children in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
This year, 344 projects were submitted by 171 schools in Castellón, Valencia and Alicante. The teams had to create technological tools and AI solutions to benefit society as a whole, regardless of age, gender, ability, race or socio-economic background.
Gala video
The gala was attended by Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat Valenciana, who highlighted the importance of the projects presented by the young people, underlining that they are exactly what the Valencian Community needs to move forward. We are waiting for you," Mazón encouraged.
Monica Bragado, president of the Social Council of the UPV, also praised the work of the 3,131 children who submitted projects. The proposals you have prepared are on a par with those of a leading R+D+I department in any multinational company,' said Bragado.
The gala ended with special recognition to the Academic Staff for their work as guides and mentors and thanks to the UPV Rector for believing in Up! STEAM.
These were the winners of the fifth edition in each of the categories:
Dreamers Juniors Award
- Bronze Award: You2Pic. CEIP Francisco Grangel Mascarós (L'Alcora)
- Silver Award: VoluntAyuda. Paidos School (Dénia)
- Gold Award: Pulsera emocional. Santa Ana (Valencia) Park School. Pulsera emocional (The Emotional Bracelet) is a device that helps users to identify and visualise their emotions through colour changes. This bracelet is specifically designed for children with ASD as it facilitates non-verbal communication of emotional states and promotes awareness of them.
Dreamers Cadets Award
- Bronze Award: WristAid. San Pablo-CEU CP (Moncada)
- Silver Award: Inclusiveguide. IES Sivera Font (Canals)
- Gold Award: Abuelito, dime tú. Sagrado Corazón School (Mislata). Abuelito, dime tú is an app designed to help older adults in their daily lives. It includes medication management, a calendar of events, volunteer assistance, and a guide to returning home if they become disoriented. It uses artificial intelligence to improve their quality of life.
Dreamers Seniors Award
- Bronze Award: Smartmeal. Asunción de Nuestra Señora School (Riba-Roja de Túria)
- Silver Award: EcoDrones. IES Escultor en Francesc Badia (Foios)
- Gold Award: La ia.IA moderna. IES Pere Boïl (Manises). The ia.IA is an app for families caring for dependent older adults. It facilitates the organisation of schedules and the control of medical appointments and medication. It offers a location system for people with Alzheimer's disease. It is intuitive and easy to use. It is intuitive and easy to use for both carers and grandparents.
Coders Juniors Awards
- Bronze Award: Los animales para infantil. Primer Marqués del Turia School (Valencia)
- Silver Award: Una segunda oportunidad. CEIP Alcalde Fabregat (Benassal)
- Gold Award: Cuidando tu salud, cuidas al planeta. CEIP Antonio Machado (Torrent). Using artificial intelligence in a comprehensive and dynamic project, this team provides information on health and the environment, highlighting that caring for your health contributes to caring for the planet. It includes more than thirty activities and video games created with Scratch.
Coders Cadets Award
- Bronze Award: Brain Memory. La Purísima School (Torrent)
- Silver Award: TrashVision. American School of Valencia (Puçol)
- Gold Award: Ecoxtil. Abecé School (Gandía). Ecoxtil starts the revolution of the textile trade. The application includes maps of clothing containers, a garment sustainability scanner and ecological tips or 'ecotips'.
Coders Seniors Award
- Bronze Award: KnowUs. San José de Calasanz School (Valencia)
- Silver Award: FoodFlow. Jesús-María Fdo. Católico School (Valencia)
- Gold Award: StudyBuddy. English School Los Olivos (Godella) With StudyBuddy, you can maximise your work and effort while studying. StudyBuddy uses artificial intelligence. This application generates questions about the content you are working on and helps you remember it.
Makers Junior Award
- Bronze Award: Smart House. CEIP Científic Avel-lí Corma (Moncofa)
- Silver Award:EcoGuard: Fire prevention. Sagrada Familia School (Alzira)
- Gold Award: Parques inclusivos: ¡Diversión sin límites! CEIP Joaquín María López (Villena) This team presents various proposals for inclusive and adapted playgrounds, including sensory routes, zip-lines, and wheelchair-braking swings.
Makers Cadets Award
- Bronze Award: Silla de ruedas con reconocimiento de voz. Santa Ana School (Algemesí)
- Silver Award: Fractal. IES Joan Coromines (Benicarló)
- Gold Award: EnvironMental. Engeba School (Valencia). River water should be clean and waste-free. This team brings us a prototype of an autonomous robot capable of cleaning riverbeds, eliminating their various polluting elements.
Makers Seniors Award
- Bronze Award: Proyecto IDRIS. IES Barri del Carme (Valencia).
- Silver Award: StopFire. Inmaculado Corazón de María School (Valencia)
- Gold Award: Espejo Inteligente 2.0. IES Càrcer (Càrcer) With this project, the team presents an innovative solution for monitoring water consumption. The mirror contains different data modules that allow access to the calendar, the agenda and, above all, detailed information on water consumption in real-time.
