Innovation, talent, imagination. These are some of the ideas that Ferran Adrià, who raised haute cuisine to stratospheric levels and whose culinary revolution has yet to be surpassed, has spoken about.

Adrià has shared his Sapiens methodology with the university community. This technique, which focuses on connecting different answers to better understand and promote innovation, has captured the attention of the attendees and highlighted the importance of innovation in academia: "If you connect all the possible answers, you can start to understand. If you understand, you will be able to innovate better and act successfully," he said.

The Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, José E. Capilla, said: "Ferran Adrián is an innovator who has brought this innovation to many other areas, including the university. As Adrià says, it is essential to imagine and anticipate what will happen, and we believe that universities must play a fundamental role in building the future and facing the social and economic challenges that lie ahead".

Ferran Adrià's participation at the UPV is part of the 'Centenary Tour' of Telefónica, of which the Catalan chef has been an ambassador since 2010. The conference, entitled 'Imaginémonos sin límites' (Let's imagine without limits), has been organised by the Telefónica Chairs Network.

elBulli1846 challenge

The second part of the day allowed students to learn about the elBulli1846 Challenge, a challenge proposed in this 'Telefónica Centenary Tour' to stimulate and disseminate the 'Sapiens' methodology in the university community for its application in Bachelor's thesis, Master's thesis and innovative projects. This challenge will test students, and the winners will receive a prize for a two-day stay in Cala Montjoi with an exclusive programme of activities with Ferran Adrià and the elBulliFoundation team.

Workshop for researchers

On the same day, a private workshop was also held. It was led by Juan Miguel Alberola, director of the Telefónica Smart-IA Chair at the Valencian Research Institute Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN) of the UPV, where they could directly dialogue with Ferran Adrià about innovation.

Chema Casas, General Manager of Telefónica in the Eastern Territory, explained: "It is a privilege for Telefónica to be able to count once again on our ambassador, Ferran Adrià, here at the Universitat Politècnica de València on a day like this, with which we want to bring Telefónica's Centenary celebrations closer to the territories. Today, we are combining innovation with talent in the field of education, bringing the creativity and knowledge of Ferran Adrià to young people".

Telefónica Smart-IA VRAIN Chair of the UPV

The Telefónica Chairs Network brings together 23 chairs in Spain. It extends to 25 universities, including the UPV, with the Telefónica Chair - Universitat Politècnica de València "Smart-IA de VRAIN", directed by Juan Miguel Alberola, to promote activities of interest that contribute to the development, dissemination and application of new technologies and the study of their impact on different areas of the information society.
