The aim of the exhibition "Culture and Technological Change: UPV Heritage" is intended to reflect on the conflicts generated by technological progress regarding the social individual and globalisation.
The exhibition, curated by Antoni Colomina and Beatriz Doménech from the Heritage and Art Collection Area of the UPV, gathers more than 100 pieces from the University's collection and enhances the value of the collections held at the different museums and campuses.
"Culture and technological change: UPV heritage" can be visited in the Space n-1 of the Central Library (ground floor of the 4L building, Vera campus) from September 20th to October 27th, from Monday to Friday from 11.00 h to 14.00 h and from 16.00 h to 19.00 h, and on Saturday, from 11.00 h to 14.00 h.
A narrative in three sections
The exhibition includes objects of different levels of technological complexity, from the abacus to the tablet, including the compass, the astrolabe, pedal toys, and telephones from different periods... in dialogue with works of painting and sculpture by such outstanding artists as Cristina de Middel, Eusebio Sempere and José Mª Yturralde.
It is divided into three sections: "The functional beauty of nature", "Projecting paths and building the world" and "Technological progress and its conflicts". The functional beauty of nature" shows the influence of mathematical and scientific concepts (such as the Fibonacci sequence or the astral movement) on artists' works and realities linked to the economy and social relations.
In "Projecting roads and building the world", the works on display allude to the advances that made it possible to explore the world, the commercial boom and the birth of cities. Finally, in "Technological progress and its conflicts", we can see how technological acceleration has allowed the development of globalised communities, creating new challenges in terms of personal interactions and the environment.

The value of heritage
This activity is part of the 20th ICOM-CC Triennial Lecture, organised by the University Institute of Heritage Restoration of the UPV, which will be held in Valencia from 18 to 22 September and attended by almost a thousand conservation experts.
It should be noted that the UPV's Art and Heritage Fund has a catalogue of nearly 11,000 works, which can normally be visited at the Campus Sculpture Museum, the Computer Museum, the "Vicente Miralles Segarra" Telecommunications Museum and other facilities on the three UPV campuses.
According to Antoni Colomina, co-curator of the exhibition, "Culture and Technological Change: UPV's Heritage" aims to highlight the value of these collections, while at the same time designing an exhibition project with itinerant potential that will serve to project the UPV to society, in collaboration with its immediate surroundings.
