UPV commitment to the STEM future: learning from INRED

On July 17, in the framework of the congress INRED and as part of the Work Package 3: Future Learning, the Universitat Politècnica de València hosted the hybrid workshop “Tackling the gaps in attracting and retaining talent for STEM students: the role of European university partnerships“. Representatives of the ENHANCE, EELISA and EUt+ alliances shared initiatives to attract and retain students in STEM careers.

ENHANCE, represented by Julien Maheut and María Alfonso Molina (co-leaders of the Work Package 3: Future Learning), introduced initiatives for the management and promotion of STEM talent by creating international learning communities. Rafael Toledo Moreo, Secretary General of the allianceEUt+, highlighted the strategy Riga Technical University (RTU) adopted to strengthen the connections between secondary and university education through the RTU Engineering High School. Ana Horta Bellido, PhD student at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and member of the alliance.EELISA, presented the innovative approach of this alliance to build a solid network of researchers and talent among its member institutions.

The meeting ended with a participative dynamic, led in person by Juan Antonio Marin-Garcia -Director of the Teaching Transformation Area- and by Julien Maheut, María Alfonso Molina and Beatriz Pastor García for online participants, focused on identifying key barriers and facilitators in attracting and retaining STEM talent at different educational stages.

This workshop left no room for doubt: alliances such as ENHANCE, EELISA, and EUt+ are not only imagining a more inclusive, innovative and collaborative future for STEM education in Europe, but are actively building it.
