The Research Ethics Committee (CEI) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has presented its annual report for 2023, highlighting an increase in the evaluation of projects and advances in the promotion of good scientific practices.
During the past year, the IRB has evaluated124 new projects and 99 reviews totaling 223 reports issued. A relevant fact is that more than 75% of the projects required corrective measuresreflecting the rigor of the process to ensure scientific integrity. Most projects focused on research involving human subjects (84%), followed by animal studies (13%) and genetically modified organisms or biohazardous agents (3%).
In terms of gender participation, the 67% of projects were led by men and the 33% by women. However, female researchers submitted a higher proportion of projects in the area of human health (91% of their proposals) compared to 84% of their male colleagues.
The report also highlights training activities in collaboration with the Doctoral School, as well as the updating of forms and internal regulations to streamline procedures in view of the increase in the number of projects. In addition, cases of ethical conflicts, such as plagiarism and improper use of institutional affiliations, were resolved.
This document underlines the key role of the committee in ensuring that the UPV maintains the highest standards in its scientific output, adapting to the challenges of a constantly evolving research environment.
