The Research Ethics Committee (CEI) of the Universitat Politècnica de València has intensified during the last year its review and supervision mechanisms for research projects involving experimentation with humans, animals, agents of risk to human health or genetically modified organisms. This reinforcement responds to the need to ensure a higher degree of regulatory compliance with the Scientific Integrity Policy and the Good Research Practices Policy of the institution itself.
Among the measures implemented, the CEI has focused on the control of projects developed within the framework of doctoral studies. Thus, in collaboration with the Doctoral School, mechanisms have been implemented to ensure that they comply with ethical and integrity requirements demanded by university regulations and national and international legislation from their initial phase. This monitoring seeks to foster a culture of scientific responsibility in the new generations of researchers.
In addition,The Committee has urged the financial management bodies of the UPV to implement a procedure similar to that of the Doctoral School, with controls on the opening of specific keys associated with research projects. In order to ensure that no funding is activated without having satisfactorily passed the corresponding ethical evaluation, thus avoiding possible breaches that could compromise the integrity of research activity at the UPV or the use of public funds.
This reinforcement of ethical reviews and controls is taking place against a backdrop of significant growth in the number of projects evaluated. In 2024 alone, the IRB reported on 128 original projects, of which a majority required modifications and revisions, bringing the total number of reports issued during the year to 205.The upward trend has also continued in the first months of 2025, with 48% more files reviewed compared to the same period of the previous year.
With these actions, the CEI consolidates its role as a guarantor of scientific integrity and transparency in research at the Universitat Politècnica de ValènciaThe company is committed to the protection of people, animals and the environment, the cornerstones of ethical, responsible and quality research.
