Seminar: Iterative Decoding

Description

Iterative decoding especially with LDPC codes is an important topic in Telecommunication Engineering. We will study advanced concepts of message passing decoding in LDPC codes, its performance analysis, standards that use them and we will practice them with Matlab.

Learning Units

  • 1. Low density parity check matrix code. Regular and irregular codes
  • 2. Iterative decoding: intrinsic and extrinsic information, likelihood, message passing in bipartite graphs. Sum-product algorithm
  • 3. Iterative detection and equalization. Applications: high spectral efficiency modulations and MIMO systems
  • 4. LDPC codes in standards: 802.11n (WiFi), 802.16e (Mobile WiMAX), DVB-S2
  • 5. Performance analysis of LDPC codes. Density evolution. Exit charts.
  • 6.Simulation examples using Matlab
