UPV-Geely Partnership

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has held an institutional meeting with representatives of the car manufacturer Geely in Hangzhou to begin to forge closer collaboration between Valencia and the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI), the international campus that the UPV is developing in China.

The meeting with Geely focused particularly on talent and the opportunities that may open up for UPV students through shared training programmes, joint academic initiatives, international mobility and projects linked to smart mobility, technology and innovation.

Both parties also discussed potential areas of work related to joint research and the recruitment of international talent, which will facilitate student and researcher exchanges between Hangzhou and Valencia.

The Rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla, viewed this initial contact very positively and emphasised that "the connection between the university and industry is essential to offer our students an education aligned with the major technological and business challenges of the future".

He also stressed that "the UPV's presence in Hangzhou will enable us to generate new opportunities for collaboration with leading international companies and build stable bridges of innovation, talent and research between China and Spain".

José E. Capilla also noted that "Geely represents one of the most significant examples of China's technological and industrial ecosystem and shares with the UPV a vision strongly focused on innovation, advanced mobility and the development of highly qualified talent".

Representing Geely at the meeting were Shi Liangqing, General Manager of the Geely Holding Group Human Resources Centre; Dai Huifang, Rector of Geely Academy and General Manager of the Human Resources Shared Services Centre; Li Haina, CHRO of Aurora Bay Company and Deputy Director of the Geely Propulsion Systems Research Institute; Zhang Jianguo, Deputy General Manager of the International Division of Geely Automobile Group and Director of Talent Management; Yu Qinfei, Head of University-Enterprise Cooperation at the Human Resources Shared Services Centre; Li Xiaogang, HRBP Manager for China at Aurora Bay Company; and Li Huaqing, Communications and Public Relations Manager at the Geely Galaxy Brand Marketing Centre.

This event forms part of the institutional mission that the UPV is currently undertaking in China to strengthen its international standing and consolidate new academic and business partnerships.

Among the key highlights of the agenda was the BVPI's participation in the 11th Beihang University International Cultural Festival, an event held in Beijing that brings together students and institutions from numerous countries and serves as one of the Chinese campus's main international showcases. In addition, the first meeting of the BVPI monitoring committee took place, during which both universities (UPV and Beihang University) made progress on the roadmap for the future international campus that the UPV is promoting in Hangzhou in partnership with Beihang University.
