The Electron Microscopy Service has equipment to study the mechanical properties of small samples measuring between 1 and 4 cm. This equipment can run traction, compression and flexion tests under two load cell conditions: 150 N or 2000 N.
Its reduced size means that these tests can be observed in environmental conditions under a magnifier, acquiring successive images or video, or in the scanning electron microscope chamber for observation at high magnifications.
