PhD Civil Engineering (1980). Full professor (1983) in of Construction engineering at the UPV. Vice-director of the Civil Engineering School of the UPV between 1983 and1986. Head of department of Construction Engineering and Civil Engineering Design from 1986 up to 1993 and since 2001 until now. Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Faculty and Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs and Planning at the University during the period 1993 to 1999. Currently Director of the "Advanced and Sustainable Building" Chair. In 2000 received the "Medal of the Universitat Politècnica de València", highest award given by the University on the proposal of its Governing Council. He teaches at the School of Civil Engineering (Bachelor and Master Degrees), and at the Construction Engineering Department (Master of Concrete Engineering) and he is a member of the research team of the doctoral program of the Department of Construction Engineering. He has worked in research projects related to the experimental behaviour and numerical modelling of biaxial instability of columns, shear, membrane elements and D regions; with more than 90 publications in journals of high impact factor (19 in the first quartile of the JCR index) and 115 papers presented in national and international congresses. He is the first author of the book "Design of concrete structures using the strut and tie method" (ed. 2006 and 2009) and has collaborated in the preparation of educational books of design of concrete structures. In recent years he has specialized in the study of the behaviour of D-regions, such dapped-end supports, pile caps and socket foundations, developing numerical models, proposing methods and recommendations for their design. He has collaborated in the drafting of the Spanish Code for Structural Concrete (EHE-2008. He is currently President of the Commission I "Design" of the Spanish Association of Structural Concrete (ACHE), member of its Coordinating Committee and member of the Editorial Committee of the journal "Hormigón y Acero". He is also a representative member of the UPV in the AENOR CTN 140/SC2 Subcommittee EC ¿ 2. He has participated in 24 research projects funded by Governments or public and private institutions, as principal investigator in 5 research projects funded by the Spanish National R&D Plan and 2 projects funded by the Generalitat Valenciana R&D Plan. |
