PRODEDURE - OBTAINING N.I.E.
N.I.E. (número de identificación de Extranjero, Foreigner Identification Number)
The Foreigner Identification Number may be necessary for certain economic procedures (for example, receiving a scholarship or opening a bank account), and when requesting, its need must be justified.
It can be requested from Spain, as long as the foreigner is not in an irregular situation, or from abroad, at the corresponding diplomatic mission or consular post.
In Valencia, it is requested at the Police Station at Bailén Street No. 9, by appointment.
Steps to be taken by the student:

1- Request an appointment with the corresponding police station (select "policia-certificados/comunitarios").
2- Go to the police station on the day of the appointment with the following documentation (original AND copy):
Passport / Identity Document
Fee paid for model 790, code 012
EX15 application if NIE assignment, NIE certificate or Residence / Non-residence certificate is requested
Communication of the economic, professional or social causes that justify the request.
