"You are our present and future"

The rector of the UPV, José Esteban Capilla, welcomes 117 new assistant professors

[ 29/10/2025 ]

They are the present and future of teaching at a key moment. On the verge of a generational shift that affects nearly a third of university faculty in the next decade, and in an inevitably revolutionary context marked by the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in all areas, the challenge is twofold for more than 100 new professors welcomed today by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), through its rector, José Esteban Capilla.

'The good administration of the university has enabled us to gradually increase our offering and academic staff to tackle the enormous challenge we currently face; it is a very significant generational shift, and also at a time of change, of things that we are still figuring out how to do,' said Capilla.

"AI is one of the factors that should make us reflect on how we are going to reconsider teaching and learning processes, assessment methods, and how to incorporate it into all aspects of the university. Therefore, we are in front of a new generation, 117 professors whom we welcome today, who have a lot ahead of them to do, and who will be our future, because they will be the protagonists of this transformation, and of course, they will do so supported by all the services and specialists within the UPV who are already working on it," he added.

Román Belda: 'The working environment at a university like this one is unbeatable.'

Of the 117 new assistant professors, 40 were previously part-time lecturers at the UPV. One of them is Román Belda, a teacher and researcher with an extensive professional career, including both the public and private sectors, who, now, after 4 years as a part-time lecturer at the Alcoy Campus, is delighted to take up this new position.

“I have been working for many years, and although I have usually been in charge of projects, I have always been closely involved with students doing their bachelor's and master's theses.... I have always enjoyed working with them, helping them once I had gained some experience. That's why I thought I would enjoy teaching and sharing all I have learned, and the working environment at a university like this one is unbeatable," said Román.

Eva García Villalba, “one of the 10 lucky ones”

Eva García Villalba, for her part, begins her academic year with enthusiasm, having recently secured her position as an assistant professor. She returns to a university where she completed part of her studies and will now share her mathematical knowledge with her students.

'I studied for my Master's Degree in Mathematical Research here at the UPV. Then, during my PhD, I was at other universities. This year, I had the opportunity to apply for the position of assistant professor. Well, I was finally one of those 10 lucky ones,' Eva concluded with an inevitable smile.

Talent, expertise, and commitment are the keys that guarantee the success of these new professors, ready to continue making the UPV a space for innovation, excellence and knowledge transfer - a benchmark university both nationally and internationally, eagerly awaiting their contributions. Let the classes begin.
