Nature ranks the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) among the top 100 universities in the world. This is included in the Young Universities Nature Index 2019, a ranking that analyzes the research works in natural science carried out at universities around the world aged younger than 50. UPV is now ranked in 68th in the world. In addition, it is the second best university in Spain.

To carry out the ranking, Nature analyzes the research work and strategies of each university for being among the international university elite in the field of natural science, which includes chemistry, Earth and environmental science, life science and physics.

The key: attracting talent and high-quality research works

"It takes time to build research institutions of quality and substance, but getting the right components together at the outset enhances the chances of success. The most successful among the Nature Index Young universities, defined as being aged 50 years or younger, are making remarkable headway in attracting talent and rising up the ranks through high-quality research outputs and collaborations", says Bec Crew, Nature Index senior editor.

In his analysis, Crew points that many of these universities "feel liberated from the traditions that characterize older institutions, and they list strong interdisciplinary cultures, a track record of innovation and the capacity to attract a more diverse student population".

Reports in 82 major impact journals

This young universities ranking is based on the Nature Index Global, a database that Nature Research has compiled and published since 2013, which analyzes reports from 82 major impact academic journals. Thus, it offers a worldwide high-quality research map.

Internationally renowned by all the first-level rankings

The Nature report again emphasizes the excellence of the Universitat Politècnica de València, renowned by all the international first-level rankings. Last August, the Shanghai ranking ranked UPV among the top 500 universities with most quality in the world for the 15th year in a row, and confirmed it as the best Spanish polytechnic.

In addition, the other two main university rankings of the world, QS and THE, also supported the UPV teaching in their last editions. Thus, last June, the QS World University Rankings, carried out by the consultancy firm Quacquarelli Symonds, ranked UPV, for second year in a row, among the top 350 universities in the world.

Moreover, the Times Higher Education (THE) journal distinguished UPV as one of the 75 best European universities in the teaching field, giving the Valencia university the best classification in its history.
