The THE's prestigious World University Ranking has once again placed the UPV among the 150 best Young universities in the world

[ 29/05/2017 ]

The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) is once again among the top 150 young universities in the world, according to the prestigious Times Higher Education Young University Rankings.

The ranking drawn up by the British journal the Times Higher Education (THE) recognizes the world's leading higher education institutions less than 50 years old.

Spanish leaders

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings distinguishes the UPV and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) as Spain's best polytechnic universities and places them among the world's leaders in the 101-150 range.

This recognition is in addition to achieving a place in the world's most prestigious universities in the Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) -also known as the Shanghai Ranking- who again distinguished the UPV as the best polytechnic university in Spain as well as listing it among the world's leading universities for the tenth consecutive year.

The only Valencia university in the Ranking

The UPV is also the only university in Valencia to be included in the Times Higher Education Ranking, as in the case of the QS World Ranking. The Shanghai Ranking considered the UPV to be the Nº 1 of all the universities of Valencia.

Outstanding for business profits, citations and international projection

To compile the Ranking, the THE analyses a total of 13 indicators to evaluate potential and results in research, teaching, business results, citations and projection. For the last three years the UPV obtained the best results in these three areas: business returns (44.3), citations (43.9) and international projection (41.9).

The UK, with 27 universities, the country with most universities in the Ranking

This edition of the Ranking includes for the first time 200 institutions (compared to 150 last year) from 49 countries. The UK, with 27, has the highest number of universities in the list, closely followed by Australia (23). France (16), Spain (15), Germany (11) and Italy (10) are also well represented and demonstrate the high standards of the young European universities.

Not surprisingly, the Ranking is headed by l'École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (Switzerland), ahead of four Asian universities: the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Pohang University of Science and Technology (South Korea) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea), which complete the top five.
