The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is among the top 200 universities with the most social and economic impact in the world. That is clear from the 2020 THE University Impact Rankings, carried out by Times Higher Education, and which ranks higher education institutions according to their commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), an initiative adopted in 2015.
On September 25, 2019, the UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, consisting of 17 global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and guarantee prosperity. Each of them has specific goals to be achieved in the next 15 years.
UPV is particularly notable in the 12th SDG of responsible production and consumption, where the institution led by Francisco Mora is 16th in the world, according to this ranking, which in this point assesses the value of “the efficient use of resources and energy, the construction of environmentally friendly infrastructures, the improvement of access to essential services and the creation of green, fairly paid jobs and with good working conditions”.
Moreover, THE ranks UPV among the top 100 universities on the planet in five more goals: SDG 2, zero hunger (40th); SDG 6, clean water and sanitation (82nd position); SDG 8, decent work and economic growth (67th); SDG 9, industry, innovation and infrastructure (98th); and SDG 14, life below water (91st).
2020 THE University Impact Rankings ranks UPV as the Spanish polytechnic university with the most social and economic impact both in SDG 2, zero hunger, and in SDG 12, responsible production and consumption.
