Creating Video Learning Objects for Sakai with Polimedia   Carlos Turró   (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia)
One of the questions to solve for a successful introduction on video content for any e-learning platform is how such content is going to be created. The process of creation has to be designed in such a way that it doesn’t waste teacher’s precious time and, in the other hand, producing a high quality learning product suitable for the students. With these restrictions in mind, we have designed a framework, that we call Polimedia, to produce such content. We have used Polimedia at the Politechnical University of Valencia jointly with Sakai, and we have more than 400 video learning objects, recorded from more than 200 teachers. In our presentation we will show how the process is designed, we will take a look for real examples, and finally we will insight in how the students use the Polimedia content within Sakai.   Carlos Turró, PhD. is Network Administrator and Head of Media Services at the Politechnical University of Valencia. He has more than 50 publications in international congress and journals. Lately his work has dealt with the design & development of Polimedia tool for Video e-Learning, gaining the Spanish FICOD award, and several other international mentions.
E-learning environments based on open source: a review in Spanish Universities   PhD. Mª Paz Prendes Espinosa (Universidad de Murcia)
In this paper we present a research about the uses of open source e-learning environments in spanish universities (both private and public). The research proposed three goals: by one hand, the description of the reality about these telematic tools, obtaining a photograph where finally Moodle has a great  advantage over any other tool; by the other hand, we have questioned about the process of decission in each case, so the key factors to decide the implementation of each e-learning environment; and finally, we have evaluated different tools (including Moodle and Sakai) with a methodology of expert users judge. With all these information and considering the most important factors of judge from our point of view, we have decided to implement Sakai in the University of Murcia. Currently we are working in this process of change from different key aspects: organizational, academic, technical and pedagogical.
