Double degree in Business Administration and Management + Tourism

What is this degree about?

The aim of this double degree is to allow students to obtain two undergraduate degrees, the Degree in Tourism (GT) and the Degree in Business Administration and Management (GADE), in five years of intensive work, which otherwise would require a total of 8 years. The double degree is aimed at students with a medium-high performance, with an interest in business management and in the tourism sector. It is taught in two university centres: the Gandia and the Alcoi campus, with two different itineraries, depending on where the studies begin.

Those students who start the double degree in Alcoi shall study the Degree in Business Administration and Management in three years, including the intensification of English and German courses, followed by a year and a half in Gandia to specialise in tourism management. Both possibilities include compulsory business related internships.

Those who opt to start the double degree in Gandia shall study the full Degree in Tourism and some Business Administration and Management (ADE) subjects in the first three years, and then move to Alcoi for a year and a half to complete ADE subjects.

At the end of the double degree they will have obtained comprehensive training in the management and administration of companies, which will enable them to take on responsibility roles in the global scope of the organisations, and will provide them with in depth knowledge of the tourism sector, one of the most stable in Spain.

Are there any prior requirements?

It is recommended that students have previously taken courses in mathematics and economics. The knowledge of a foreign language is also important, although the double degree offers training in that area, as well as an interest in foreign cultures and travel.

What will you learn once you complete the degree?

Those students who complete the double degree will be able to assume responsibility roles in intermediate or managerial positions of the different departments within a company.

Identify and analyse the elements comprising the tourist environment and develop research and studies in the tourism sector with the appropriate methodology.

Manage cultural and natural heritage through valuation and identification techniques of stakeholders and related key elements.

Communicate orally and in writing in English and a second foreign language (German or French in the Gandia-Alcoy itinerary, or German in the Alcoy-Gandia itinerary).

What jobs can you aim for?

Students will be able to take on managerial positions in all types of companies: from management and administration to more specialised positions in direction, accounting, finance, taxation, human resources, marketing, quality, occupational risks, etc. They may also work as in auditor, consultant, advisor and trainer roles for other companies in economic-financial issues, quality systems, human resources, etc.

They will be specially qualified to take on managerial or intermediate positions in hotel and catering companies, travel agencies, tour operators, tourism promotion companies, fairs, transport organisations, tourism planning and development companies, tourist sector associations, animation, organisation of conventions and events, rural or environmental tourism, tourism departments of different agencies and public institutions, public or private research centres or R&D+i, or as in a teaching position in public and private centres, among other options.

What kind of internship will you do?

The double degree includes a compulsory internship that students can carry out in some of the more than 600 companies and organisations with which the Universitat Politècnica de València has signed educational cooperation agreements, or in companies contacted by the students themselves, with prior authorisation from the UPV's internship service.

The internships in companies can be related to the management and planning of tourism or to the management of companies of another sector: finance, audit.

Where can you spend a semester?

Students can take the 2nd semester of the 5th year abroad to carry out the internship and complete the final year dissertation in one of the many countries with which the UPV holds exchange agreements.

What university master's degree can you study?

This degree provides access to Master's degree in Financial and Fiscal Management; Master's degree in Business, Products and Service Management and Master's degree in Business Management.

And, as in all cases, you may request access to any UPV master's degree studies by taking the corresponding levelling subjects.
