UPV

Spanish tuition

UPV's Department of Applied Linguistics provides tuition and organises courses for learners of Spanish as a foreign language at different levels. These courses are part of UPV's regular academic curriculum. Students who successfully pass these courses will be awarded a number of credits. These courses are only available for exchange students and are completely free of charge.

In order to determine the student's level of Spanish, s/he must take a placement test before enrolling. This test is available on-line during the application process.

The Department of Applied Linguistics, which is provisionally located in building 8K, also has a fully equipped self-access multimedia language lab with a large range of autonomous learning packages, text and reference books, and multimedia courseware. It includes a video room with a seating capacity for 25 people and over 1,300 films and teaching programmes, both on VHS and on DVD. Students are strongly advised to visit these installations.

The Language Centre also organises, in co-operation with the Life-Long Learning Centre, follow-up courses in Spanish as a Foreign Language (Camille multimedia courses). To register for these courses students must pay the corresponding fee and, at the end of the course, they will be awarded an achievement certificate.

UPV is a recognized examiner for the official Spanish language accreditation exams organised by the Instituto Cervantes. The "Spanish as a Foreign Language Diploma" (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera - DELE), issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, tests linguistic competence at three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. There are two exam sittings, one in May and the other in November, which take place at the Language Centre.
