The framework and conditions to be applied to students wishing to enrol for study at any of the Public Universities in the Valencian Region are set out in Chapter VII of the Local Government Council's Legislative Decree 1/2005 of 25th February, which regulated the approval of the New Draft of the Local Government Law on University Fees (DOGV 22.03.05).
The most significant of these conditions are as outlined below:
Students who are beginning their studies at university must register for the whole academic year or for the total number of credits that make up the course load assigned to the first year in the curriculum (approximately 75 credits); if no course load is specified then students should register in at least 60 credits.
In curricula that are structured by subjects and in the new programmes of study that are structured in credits, students will be able to register in whatever subjects or credits they want, the only limitations being those deriving from the system of academic incompatibilities that are stipulated for such purposes in the different curricula. Each centre makes its system of restrictions public in the information published in both the qualifications handbook and in the specific information students are given before they register; it is also posted on notice boards in the centre.
Curricula structured by subjects
Students can register for a whole academic year or for individual subjects. The amount to be paid will depend on whether the subjects are programmed to last all year, a semester or a term, and whether they are part of an academic year containing less than 7 annual subjects or not.
One annual subject is equivalent to two one-semester subjects and to three subjects lasting a term.
Curricula structured in credits
The amount to be paid for each credit shall be determined by the fees stated in the Valencian Local Government Decree on Public Fees for the academic year it refers to.
For registration in subjects or credits without classes due to the extinction of the study programme, the University will receive 25 per cent of the fees due.
The total registration fee cannot be less than 211.01 Euro, unless the number of subjects or credits the student has left to finish his or her degree course does not reach this minimum amount.
