Accommodation

Live and Share your Life Programme

If you are a student and you are looking for accommodation near the University, you could live with an elderly person in their home thanks to the Live and Share your Life (Vive y Convive) programme, which is sponsored by the Caixa Catalunya's Social Programme with the cooperation of the UPV.

For students seeking a flat in the city centre, this programme offers the chance to find free lodgings in the home of an elderly person who is lonely and needs company. This project therefore intends to fulfil two goals at the same time - keeping lonely elderly people involved in society and providing accommodation for undergraduates.

Who is it addressed to?

It is addressed to full-time university students under 30 years of age (35 years for postgraduate, master's degree or PhD students) who live a long way from the University and would like to experience the satisfaction of helping an elderly person in his or her home.

It is also addressed to people over 65 years of age, who live alone and can look after themselves but want to share their home with young people.

The Vive y Convive Foundation of the Caixa Catalunya provides them with a monthly economic contribution to help them cope with the extra expenses derived from sharing their home (electricity, water, gas, etc.). The student and the elderly person must sign a written agreement where, as well as mutual respect, the rights and duties of each part are clearly stated.

Follow-up programme

From the beginning of the selection process and until the end of the academic year, a team of experts made up of psychologists and social workers will give their support to the elderly person and to the student in order to ensure they live together in harmony. The experts will visit and talk to the two parties from time to time to check that everything is going well.
