The dynamism which characterises the Universitat Politècnica de València makes it necessary to subject its key lines of action to constant updating in order to adapt to new realities. Today, more than ever, the university system plays a key role in our constant progress towards the knowledge economy. From the perspective of the Social Council, we understand that the University must function as an authentic motor for economic and social change and a powerful factor in international competitiveness. It is precisely this concept which permeates the entire spirit of the UPV 2020 Strategic Plan which establishes the principal lines of action of the Universitat Politècnica de València in the coming years and which has been designed as a living document, which is subject to annual review, in order to facilitate its adaptation to the constant changes in our society.
One of the most important projects on which the Universitat Politècnica de València has embarked in the last year is, without doubt, the review of the Strategic Plan, an undertaking fundamental for facilitating the adaptation of this institution to a socioeconomic context which, in recent years, has been subject to substantial changes.
With the greatest possible ambition, but with a focus that is clearly realist, the Strategic Plan takes ample account from the very beginning of what will be the key traits which will characterise the UPV in future years: the provision of quality education for all its students, and the fostering of research and technological transfer towards industrial production closest to home. This was done with the objective of increasing the contribution of the Universitat Politècnica de València in the advancement of the society of which we are an integral part. The UPV knows it can count on the hard work of all the members of its Social Council in order to guarantee the we can meet the challenges which have been laid down, which will contribute to further consolidate this University as an educational institution of reference .
The implication of the entire university community in the development of this new Strategic Plan stands as a guarantee for success and shows that the UPV is an open institution with a clear vocation to involve, in one way or another, all the individuals who form part of it.
Finally, I wish to express my sincerest gratitude to the working team who, c-ordinated by the Vice-rector of Economic Affairs and Planning, have collaborated in the drawing up of this UPV 2020 Strategic Plan and also to all those members of the university community who have been actively involved in this project.
