The GEOS (Groupe Européen d'Observation Stellaire), a more than twenty-years-old group, is composed by variable star observers belonging to a number of European countries. The countries represented are at present: France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Lithuania. The group's main purpose is to observe variable stars and process the data thus collected with research work as a final objective. The priority given to research over the mere publication of raw data makes the GEOS a unique group among other associations of variable star observers. As already happened in the past, the GEOS approach to the study of variable star can help researchers to enter the field of professional astronomy.
