Multicore systems are already dominating the processor market, and it is expected that the number of cores will continue increasing in most of the commercial systems, such as high-performance, desktops, or embedded systems. This trend is driven by the need to increase the efficiency of the major system components, that is, the cores, the memory hierarchy, and the interconnection network. For this purpose, the system designer must trade off performance versus power consumption, which is a major concern in current microprocessors. Therefore new architectures or architectural mechanisms addressing this trade off are required. In this context, load balancing and scheduling can help to improve energy savings. In addition, it remains a challenge to identify and productively program applications for these architectures with a resulting substantial performance improvement. Finally, most real-time applications are requiring high-performance computing and multicore and multithreaded processors are becoming the design choice not only for high-end machines but for embedded and pervasive devices as well.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for engineers and scientists to address the resulting challenge and to present new ideas, applications, and experience on all aspects of multicore and multithreaded systems.

Authors are invited to submit high quality papers representing their original work in (but not limited to) the following topics targeting muticore multithreaded processors:

• Multicore and multithreaded architectures.
• Multicore and multithreaded programming.
• Power-aware architectures and computing.
• Scheduling and load balancing.
• Embedded multicore real-time systems.
• Intelligent and pervasive computing.

Paper Submission and Publication

Submit original unpublished papers to general Co- Chairs: husein@disca.upv.es, jsahuqui@disca.upv.es in PDF or Words formats. The paper should not exceed 16 pages with double-space, single column and font size of at least 10-point, including all figures, tables and references. All submitted manuscripts will be reviewed at least by three expert reviewers. Submissions will be judged on originality, technical strength, quality of presentation, and relevance to the workshop scope.

Accepted and presented papers will be included into the IEEE Conference Proceedings published by IEEE CS Press (indexed by EI). Authors of accepted papers, or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference, otherwise their papers will be removed from the digital libraries of IEEE CS and EI after the conference.

Distinguished papers accepted and presented in MMAP 2009, after further revisions, could be considered for publication in special issues of renowned international journals.
