Presentation

The persons who formed the old Chair of Thermal Engines CMT (Cátedra de Motores Térmicos) have been consolidating and increasing their activities since its creation in 1979. Nowadays, the CMT-Motores Térmicos group has a well-defined personality that includes the Department of Thermal Machines and Engines(Departamento de Máquinas y Motores Térmicos) and the Centre of Transport Maintenance (Institute Centro de Mantenimiento de Transporte).
La CMT-Motores Térmicos is located on the Vera campus (Building 6D) of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia.
Its research work is centred on subjects related to reciprocating internal combustion engines, more specifically to the improvement of their performance. Within this field the studies leading to the modelling of the air management and combustion processes and of the aerodynamic noise stand out. Another priority research area of the group concerns the techniques for preventive as well as predictive maintenance. In addition to supporting the ongoing research work, the laboratory dedicates part of its effort to the development of experimental techniques specifically applied to engines.
The excellence of the CMT-Motores Térmicos research work is reflected through the collaboration agreements with companies and official organisations, the exchanges with other research centres, national as well as international, the doctoral theses and the numerous publications. There is no doubt that CMT-Motores Térmicos maintains outstanding relations with companies of the automotive sector and this has brought about that the group has at its disposal all the resources necessary for the development of research.
CMT-Motores Térmicos is also involved in the teaching of students of the Mechanical Engineering Schools (5 years High Grade School and 3 years Medium Grade School), in doctoral courses and in advanced and post-graduate courses.
