Women in Work. Woman, art and work under globalisation

Women in Work. Woman, art and work under globalisation
from 7 March to 19 May, 2017 EXTENDED until 31 May

Globalisation has not been able to overcome the old organisation of socio-economic spheres defined by the sexual division of productive and reproductive labour. Quite the opposite, while women have entered the productive labour market on a massive scale, they have not ceased to perform the invisible reproductive tasks (the care work that allows the reproduction of life). .

Women enter the labour market asymmetrically with respect to men, mainly due to the "reproductive tax". Another issue is the increase in free work and the segregation of the global labour market, as well as the feminisation of poverty.

The Women in Work exhibition. Women, art and work in globalisation offers a review of some artistic practices that have covered and still cover this subject since the 1990s in Spain and internationally.

The exhibition consists of five sections:

  1. Projects: Gender circuits in the global era, feminist critique and some economy subversions. Coordination: Mau Monleón
  2. Video Cycle: Working. Against the chauvinist monopoly of culture. Coordination: Mau Monleón, Dionisio Sánchez and Valentina Paz Henríquez
  3. Video Cycle: Feminisms, women and work in Galicia. Coordination: Anxela Caramés
  4. Video Cycle: Our pride, our struggle. [About Peruvian working women]. Coordination: Valentina Paz Henríquez
  5. Graphic projects: Woman I do not like when you are quiet: student movement and feminist struggle in Chile [Political Graphic Studies Association and Student Movement in Chile]. Coordination: Carolina Olmedo Carrasco and Javiera Manzi

EN ACCIÓ (IN ACTION) [2]

EN ACCIÓ (IN ACTION) [2]
from 25 January to 23 February, 2017

Exhibition in favour of Valencia Acoge, with a collaboration of 63 UPV artists and a donation of 153 works with sale prices from ¿ 1. The exhibition will open to the public on 25 January until 23 February. All the works on display will only be available for sale from 13 February. Among the pieces that make up the exhibition there are watercolours, canvases, sculptures, photographs, engravings, artist's books, and also publications of the Office of Cultural Activities at symbolic prices (books, DVD's and CDs).

Valencia Acoge is an association fully independent of any other association, union, party, organism, administration, etc. After over ten years of work and, after several avatars, the association has created its own space within the NGO landscape for the defence of equality and the immigrant rights. The main motivation that unites the members of Valencia Acoge, regardless of ideologies, is the defence of the rights of foreigners in our country. We specifically identify ourselves with that stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and ratified by the Spanish State. We must demand its application and it must also inspire the action of the Administration in all its fields and denounce the hypocrisy of the western states in fulfilling the obligations entailed by the signing of international agreements.

RESTAURA 3.0 (RESTORATION)

RESTAURA 3.0 (RESTORATION)
from 4 October 2016 to 13 January 2017.

The professional setting of the restorer has changed substantially in the last decades. With the implementation of advanced technologies, the experience of artistic interventions has reached unimaginable levels. These new forms of interdisciplinary collaboration have gradually allowed the sharing and integration of the information generated with the current society 3.0.

The training of professionals in heritage conservation is a key pillar in the basis of our cultural framework. In the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage of the Universitat Politècnica de València, the training of qualified and competent specialists has been pursued since its inception 25 years ago, to whom the concern, curiosity and sensitivity have been transmitted for safeguarding the heritage. Similarly, attempts have been made to follow closely the sociocultural transformations that have been taking place, adapting them to the requirements and training needs of each moment.

The exhibition Restaura 3.0 is a clear example where the perfect harmony between original work, new materials and new techniques of intervention is established, sharing with the spectators developed solutions and intelligible results.

Entendre el caos (Understanding chaos)

Entendre el caos (Understanding chaos)
from 21 April 21 to 15 July 2016.

The purpose of this exhibition is to explore and discover the presence of grids in our life and in the artificial world in which we live. Grids, understood as the constructive and compositional foundation of networks and structures, can be seen in the microcosm as well as in the macrocosm, and also as in the technical, architectural, creative and artistic world.

The exhibition is presented as a visual journey through the different manifestations of networks and grids in some of the fields of observation existing in nature, in the implementation as a compositional principle in the construction techniques of the past and in current technology.
