The UPV ranks as the best university in Spain to study Telecommunications Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), commonly known as the Shanghai ranking and regarded as the most prestigious university indicator at an international level, ranks the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) as the best university in Spain to study Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

The 2021 edition of this ranking, published at 12 noon today in Beijing (6 AM in Spain), also includes the UPV among the 100 best in the world (41st, specifically) to study Food Science and Technology, Library and Documentation Science, and Agricultural Sciences.

The UPV stands out in 18 disciplines

GRAS 2021 gives the UPV a high position in 18 of its disciplines. Thus, in addition to being included in the top 100 in the 3 above-mentioned degrees, the UPV ranks among the 150 best in 3 more of them –Telecommunication Engineering, Water Resources, and Instrumental Science and Technologies–, and among the 200 best in Mechanical Engineering.

Likewise, the Shanghai ranking acknowledges the UPV as one of the top 300 universities in the world regarding 6 more degrees –Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy, Mathematics, Chemistry and Management–, and includes it in the top 400 in another 4 –Computer Science, Biotechnology, Business Administration and Management, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering– and among the 500 best in Materials Engineering.

In the Spanish Top 5 in 11 degrees

In the Spanish arena, in addition to considering the UPV the best university in this country to study Telecommunications Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, the Shanghai ranking places it in the Spanish top 5 in 9 other disciplines. These are Library and Documentation Science (2nd), Water Resources (2nd), Food Science and Technology (3rd), Civil Engineering (3rd), Energy (3rd), Computer Science (3rd), Agricultural Sciences (4th), Science and Instrumental Technologies (4th), and Biotechnology (5th).

Methodology

In order to prepare GRAS 2021, 4,000 of the most prestigious universities in the world, from 93 countries, have been analysed. In this way, no less than 54 classifications by subject have been drawn up, using objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of the world’s universities on relevant topics –including research results, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and a selection of international academic awards based on the Academic Excellence Survey (AES).
